ASU #58, UA #119

The world turned upside down.
I would hate to play them now. losing to asu would ruin the razorbacks football program. ive been going to hog games since 1959 and I never thougth this could be possible.
It is likely, not possible. ASU would beat Arkansas. Little question in my mind. Trainwreck of a football program.
I guess I get people saying they could see an Arkansas loss to ASU because of the Razorbacks’ losses to other Group of 5 teams the past couple of years. Arkansas doesn’t do much to instill confidence.
But I keep up with Arkansas State. That team beats up on the Sun Belt, which is probably the worst conference in FBS. ASU does not typically win when it steps out of conference and it has not been good vs. Power 5 teams.
Since 2011, when Hugh Freeze first got the program rolling, Arkansas State’s record vs. the Sun Belt is 52-14, vs. other Group of 5 conferences is 9-11, and vs. the Power 5 is 0-14 (with an average margin of 27 points).
There’s no doubt ASU couldbeat the UA this year. SJS did & if SJS did, ASU could. However, Matt’s right. ASU isn’t beating anyone of any note & is also losing to weak teams. They’ve lost in not very close games to ULL & Ga St. Their one loss to an SEC team, Georgia, was 50-something to nothing. They’re 3-4. That’s one game better than us, but our losses have been to SEC teams (with, of course, that inexplicable loss to SJS)
I don’t think we should ever play them as a matter of policy, but I admit I would not want to play them this year because if they did win—or even if we won by only a TD—we’d give them credibility within the state we don’t need to give them.
The fact this is up for debate is just pathetic given the disparity in resources between the two programs.
It’s been this way several times in the last decade. Certainly 2013 and 2017. After the near miss against Sunbelt doormat Coastal Carolina, Danny Sheridan said he’d make ASU a 3 point favorite over Arkansas on a neutral field and the program has remained moribund since then.
Again, embarrassing and those in charge of the athletic decision making about football should be ashamed it’s up for debate.
