Next Key Date - May 11th

Almost 100 underclassmen have declared for the NBA draft … that number does not include those who have exhausted their college eligibility, foreign athletes or players from Overtime Elite or the G League who have also thrown their hats into the NBA ring.

There are only 58 draft picks, meaning somewhere around half of those entering the draft will eventually be forced to decide between returning to college or playing in a lesser professional league.

For athletes contemplating a return to school who are not already in the transfer portal, May 11th is the last day to enter the portal in order to explore options beyond their current college … should they decide not to enter the portal, they must exit the draft process and return to their current school by June 1 if they wish to continue their intercollegiate careers … assuming their current school still has a scholarship available.

It will be very interesting to see who, among those declaring for the draft, enters the transfer portal between now and May 11th. A couple of names to watch - Grant Nelson and Oscar Tshiebwe.
