New receiver

I’ll have some more on him soon, but Arkansas has added receiver Gary Cross from Hutchinson Community College. He will be a junior. He is from Fordyce and was recruited by the Razorbacks in high school.

Class of 2018?

He is not on scholarship right now.

Any particulars on him? Height? Weight? 40 time? JC stats?

What Bret Bielema and Michael Smith said about Cross: … -receiver/

Seems that we have a lot of receivers on scholarship right, and (although little experience) if one can believe the recent articles therein one might question why we might need another at that position. Do you think they actually hope to use him on defense (where he has also played), or do you suspect they actually have questions about our inexperienced depth at receiver?

How about “we have a lot of receivers and not many proven ones, and he appears to be a free shot at a fairly talented, free, experienced WR that might be able to help”?

They recruited him out of high school and probably kept close tabs on him in JC. Not sure you can ever have too much depth at any position, especially in the SEC.

I don’t think you can have too many athletes. They can help on special teams. There is no experience at wide receiver outside Jared Cornelius and Deon Stewart. The rest aren’t terribly ahead of him. He’s extremely athletic. I think he would be a candidate for coverage teams. He’s got defensive skills. I’d sure think you’d take him as a walk-on. Didn’t cost them a scholarship.

Past tidbits and columns. Look at the bottom and you’ll see Gary for more background.

I just watched some of his highlights from RD’s links. He played Safety in HS and looked just as impressive as he does at WR. He is big and fast. He probably wants to see if he can crack the rotation at WR, but if not he should try safety. I think he should be a Safety if he wants to play earlier.

This may be a very good pick up from what his video shows.

Arkansas loved Gary in HS and obviously wanted to sign him then.

He sure appears to have turned heads so far. He may have only played one year of Safety but he definitely will see the field at WR or maybe Safety.
