I’ve spent far, far too much of my life reading and re-reading DD and RD’s every word over the years, reaching a frenzy about now.
there’s even and odd, post-recruiting let down where life seems kinda boring after signing day.
I always go to the LR Touchdown Club’s signing day special, lotsa fun
But hte past 2 years I"ve just not kept up at all. It was partly some apathy over our FB and BBall programs in general, but also, CBB always had a few stars he was on, that he generally whiffed on late, then had NO backup plan, with lots of unused visit days , offers, etc. just depressing in that last week.
CCM has excitement because hes the shiny new coach, but even more than that, I love his energy and work ethic and the NUMBER of quality rectuits he has gotten on so quickly. I’m very impressed with his first 2 months on the job.
You are SO correct. I used to get beat up for saying CBB did not work hard on recruiting. I was told he wanted “UNCOMMON”… I was told he was the best recruiter we had EVER had…See where that got us. RD always defended CBB’s recruiting and the “poet has the sword” so I always got “beat up”…

[/quote]If you are comparing the effort of Bret to Chad, I am not in position to know who worked harder at recruiting, seems kind of fruitless for Bret to be in so many posts. The experts are probably in a better position to judge, but at this early point, I don’t see glaring differences in the recruiting results. I like the increased focus on Texas, and hopefully more or these announcements will turn our way next year.
The next few years are going to be even more fun - once they have time to build relationships with these big time prospects, and put up some W’s with an exciting offense.
I enjoyed immensely the build-up to signing day the year CBB swung for the fences on so many recruits. We were long-shots but were in the final mix.
The recruiting effort for Tyrie Cleveland (The staff tweeting a picture from the Cleveland St road sign, for example) was something. We got a couple, most more than we got, and had a depressing feeling that we couldn’t recruit dirty enough to do that very often.
CBB wasn’t the only one who has had strikeouts. All coaches do. The first time I remember feeling kicked in the gut was when DBG out of Missouri chose the Tigers over Arkansas. Everybody thought the chances of landing him were great, and some criticized CBP for failing to land the big fish. As things turned out, it was for the best that DBG stayed home. But it sure didn’t seem like it at the time. I’ve learned not to get too excited or too disappointed. Wish CBB had swung for the fences more and hope CCM will. So far, he’s off to a good start.
