Top recruit Isaiah Todd decommitted from Michigan this week with the intention of going pro. Since he can’t be drafted by the NBA (yet) and overseas in the world of COVID-19 isn’t a great idea, that pretty much leaves the G League. Jalen Green is supposed to make a similar announcement tomorrow. The G League pay level for kids out of high school is $125K, which beats the heck out of what Mason Jones might make in the G League next year. We may see more of this, especially with the uncertainty related to the pandemic.
There’s talk Rod Strickland is trying to sway a KY guard commit/signee to go that route.
This is precisely what I’ve been hoping would come to pass when the “One & Done” phenomenon started to become prevalent.
Those athletes can now draw legitimate paychecks while working on their games … without wasting a year at school.
Who knows, maybe this will lessen some of the “bag man” effect.
For sure Coach Cal’s recruiting model will take a hit.
