More Bill Walton

OU currently playing USC in Los Angeles on ESPN2. Walton and Roxy Bernstein calling the game. As part of his usual stream of consciousness which has included skyscraper development in Shanghai and tough bike rides in Southern California, Walton has mentioned twice in the first half how Daryl Macon outplayed Trae Young in our game at PK80. More so, though, being critical of how the entire Paperclip team played in Portland than to praise Macon or the Hogs, whom he described as crushing the Sooners.

OU also broke the PK80 unis back out for this game.

Swine he ruins a ball game if you don’t mute the audio! I can’t stand it.

I find his voice very easy to tune out. OU is making our win look great right now and Walton declared in that game with 10 min to go and ou just tying the game, that ou would win by 10.

That OU win will look much better tonight after OU gets finished beating USC.

OU hangs on after leading the entire game and almost giving it away at the end. The OU win will hold up in March.

[/quote]I came here to see if anyone posted about Walton’s blatherings. I noted the same things you did - but also heard him say in the second half that “if OU had played like this, they would have beaten Arkansas”.

Really Bill? What if we had played like we did when we played UConn? Does OU (who we DID play and DID dominate - by Walton’s own comments) still beat us if they “play like they did tonight”? Don’t think so.

That’s really a stupid thing to say - but people do that all the time. One of my “favorites” is “when he’s hot, he can score a lot of points”. Really? Why would someone be described as " being hot", if they weren’t making a lot of baskets = “scoring a lot of points”? So, you could say that about the Ball boy.

What they probably mean to say is “this guy has shown that he can get hot and make a lot of baskets at any time”. But that’s not what they usually DO say. LOL

Yep - we’re at #14 in the pseduo-RPI after that result.

Sure - it’s early and RPI will change dramatically over the next two months. But, what augers very well for us (in terms of getting into the Tournament) is that (a) our non-conference SOS is very high - currently #9 per RPI, #38 per Sagarin (the latter not yet updated to reflect tonight’s results). And the teams we will be playing in the SEC also have historically high RPI’s and SOS’s - as a conference (6 of the top 30 teams in the country are SEC teams). That means our RPI should remain high even if we suffer several losses in league play, and would be outstanding if we finish in the top 3 or 4 in the final League standings. This will help with seeding.

It’s December 9. Almost 3 full months left in the regular season. Right now, 14 of our 23 remaining regular season opponents have top 100 RPIs. One of our remaining opponents has an 200+ RPI. We have more games remaining against top-20 RPI (three) than against 150+ RPI (two). They say the committee’s reliance on RPI is decreasing, but if you use it as a shorthand for strength of schedule, it looks pretty good for us. And that’s even considering that Minny is in the top 25 of the polls but is 46th in RPI.

Minny is 29th in Pomeroy this morning. We’re 35th. Should definitely be a good test.
