I hear they are firing coaches

Is this true?

Asking for a friend

They fired their DL coach after EOE-K went for 400+ on the ground.

So glad Ark didn’t hire that guy

Looking like he doesn’t have the refinement fir this level of job yet

Oh well Arkansas needs to take advantage abd not look back

Maybe they should have tried harder to keep Williams and Utsey…

Big mistake firing our DC

Big pickup for Arkansas

We dodged so many bullets before we got to CSP. We hit the lottery with Pittman

I agree totally, CSP came in at a time when we needed to heal as a program is so many ways. WPS

I am totally satisfied at this point with Coach Pittman. But I think Kiffin as well might turn out pretty good at Ole Miss. His dad had a pretty good run (albeit short) at Arkansas back in the day! Maybe that influences my opinion.

Doubt Kiffen is long for Ole Piss, but for now I agree, he is pretty goog.

Kiffin always seems to want the big new shiniest thing. He left Tenn for USC. One could argue that was a step up, especially for a west coast guy, but it didn’t help his reputation. Then of course he got booted at USC. I don’t blame him for leaving a G5 school in Fla for an SEC job, even if it was Ole Miss. Still, I wonder how long he stays. If he does very well there, I can see a bunch of better names coming calling. If he does about like all his predecessors since Johnny Vaught, he’ll have a few decent seasons & several poor ones. In that case, OM will fire him.

I hope you are right. Don’t get me wrong, I am thrilled with what he has done so far, I am just not ready to name him great yet. I guess the last 30 years (ever since Hatfield left) have jaded me.

I am as big a Hatfield fan as anyone, but Hatfield didn’t compete in the SEC. He had two great years when most of the SWC was on probation.

They still played those players that got them on probation. Just like the tattoo crooks from Ohio.

Well, it’s possible CSP will fall on his face, but I don’t think so. He’s proven himself to be too respected and liked by his players & fellow coaches. He’s obviously a good recruiter. That said, I know that Arkansas has disadvantages as a program compared to Alabama, LSU, Texas, Tex A&M, Fla, & Georgia. We’re always going to have a hard time beating those schools. We can more easily compete with or beat the others, including Auburn & Tenn. Regardless, unless something changes, I think we’ve hit the jackpot with Sam.

I suspect you are right. Heck, I even think you are.

But everyone thought we had hit the jackpot with Ford after the 1995 season. With Nutt after the 1998 season (I will say, as much as Nutt is disliked by many, he was not a bad coach, better than many we have had over the last 100 years); With Bret after the 2014 season.

I guess the one the gets me is Bret. Success in Wisconsin. I personally didn’t like the hire at the time, but took a “wait and see” attitude. I actually bought in after the 2014 season. We know what happened next. Compare that to Sam. I didn’t like the hire at the time, but took a wait and see attitude. Now I am buying in. I think I am afraid of my own buy in!!!

I know exactly where you’re coming from. I thought Ford was a great hire. I was only so-so on Nutt, but was convinced after the 1998 season, and ecstatic over the Petrino hire. I was also happy with the Bielema hire.

However, I can see a difference with Pittman than all those. Part of that vision is hindsight of course, but the differences are still there.

Ford: took the job but his heart wasn’t in it. Kept his cattle farm in S.Carolina.

Nutt: was not a bad coach, got dealt a bad hand with the NCAA investigation, and then let his ego get in the way during the Malzahn fiasco. Nutt deserved better than the fans gave him.

Petrino: brilliant coach but bad character & a bully. Took us to new heights but started events that led to our demise.

Bielema: same problem as Ford. No real fire for the job. (I won’t comment on rumors about drinking because I have no proof, but he obviously let things go.)

Morris: just in over his head & never even lived here. Family stayed in Dallas.

Pittman, on the other hand, not only wanted the job, he wanted THIS job above others. He feels he’s at home. He wants to retire here. Money isn’t even his motivator. He’s willing to give credit to others & deflect it from himself. His record following a catastrophic 2 years is remarkable.

I just feel really good about Pittman.

My theory on BB is that he couldn’t rebuild his staff after people like Partridge (and Sam) left, and their replacements were incapable of getting out of the 13.5 game downward spiral at the end of his regime. If he’d been able to go 8-4 that last season instead of 4-8, he might still be here (drinking issues and all) and we never would have had to deal with Chud. But he couldn’t, and he’s gone, etc, etc. Would HY have kicked him out? We don’t know if HY would even have been here.

More than just being a good recruiter, from what I hear, coaches genuinely love coaching for him. I believe he can pull top notch coaches no matter if someone leaves.
