I have been reading on here for about a week and a half that their Friday night pitcher was unbeatable. No use even showing up, and their next two were also very good. I thought and Posted that wait a minute. Sure they are good. This is the SEC. The Hogs are good too. Well, is there anybody saying tonight that they are unbeatable and the Hogs have no chance?
This is a DVH team. That means there is a good chance they can win any game.
Hope we can get one tomorrow, but anybody saying now that two is not possible?

Once the first pitch is heads toward home plate either team can win. That’s baseball.
Well you’re talking about me so I don’t know why you just don’t come out and say it because I am one who said I didn’t think we would win any in Baton Rouge and I don’t have any problem admitting that but you have never ever heard me say we had no chance and no need to even freaking show up so that’s your addition to the story to make you look better and it’s a bunch of crap…
Every starter is beatable but their Friday night guy is as close to unbeatable as you will see in college baseball and even Dave said he’s never seen anything like him and for for the record we did not beat him yesterday. They do indeed have two other very good starters and we’re going to have to play exceptionally well today to beat them.
I think we have a great team too but with our pitching stretched so thin and many of them having to pitch in their first true hostile environment is why I did not think we would probably win any. I definitely did not expect us to win the Friday game because of their starter and I am extremely pleased that we were able to win the game although he dominated us just like I thought he might giving up only two hits and at one time striking out 8/9 batters.
Always going to be some on this board though who like to come back and point out when people make false predictions. I’m glad I’m not wired that way because predictions are always going to be easy to criticize after the games are played lol as they say hindsight’s always going to be 20/20 SMH

LOL. Looks like nearly every base has been covered here. Time to chill.

I’ll be interested to see if he can maintain this level all year, but right now Skenes is as close to unbeatable as I’ve seen in the SEC. The only way to beat him is to have pitchers equally as effective and Arkansas had that yesterday. Not many teams can shut down that lineup.
I don’t think LSU will be losing many Friday games.

I think you are being too hard on Jim. You were not the only one who was touting how good LSU is. They are. The thing is, Arkansas is good too.

Part of the thought process is that LSU is great but Arkansas is not up to the standards of the last couple of years. A win this afternoon will wake our fans up and the rest of college baseball. The better team may be LSU, but DVH out-coach them at every turn yesterday.

That is exactly it it. Of course he and LSU are very good, but it seems Arkansas must have a pitcher or two. The way you beat a guy like that is is to match him. There is nothing he can do about your defense. Match it and then get into the pen (which is probably very good, but not good enough yesterday).
I went into the series looking for 1 W and they got that. Did not expect it to be Friday. Now I want 1 (2) more. will it happen? It is a two game series between two very good teams (that is the point, TWO very good teams). In baseball, never know what is going to happen. One bad hop can change everything if teams are evenly matched (and these two are - ranked 1 & 3). Hey it is the SEC, which is good as it gets.
I never call anybody out. Do not which to paly those games, certainly not in hindsight. Many if not most on here know far more about this stuff than me, but I do know that The Hogs have as good a baseball program as anybody and should never be counted out unless of course Gibson is pitching and this guy nor no one else is he.

The reason I replied the way I did is because I definitely remember saying that I probably thought we wouldn’t win any in Baton Rouge because of all our inexperienced pitching.
I definitely remembered saying that I didn’t think they’re Friday night guy was probably going to get beat unless the bullpen lost it for him and I definitely remember talking about how good their other two starters were and amazingly he happened to mention every single one of those things… hard not to think that was not pointed right at me because I don’t remember anybody else saying it. Sorry if I offended anyone

I totally agree with you Matt he is a different breed you don’t see people that can throw 100+and then snap off a breaking ball or a change up at 90 and all of them are thrown for strike and he doesn’t lose any steam even seven innings in
He’s a professional pitcher pitching in college and that’s why Texas A&M coach who has been around a long time and is a absolutely fantastic coach said “he’s pitching in the wrong League” and I totally agree with him.
We have a great hitting lineup and at one time he struck out eight of nine hitters that will not happen to us again this year.
You have to love the passion of Razorback fans!! WPS

Likewise Jim I have always appreciated your insight and expertise and I apologize if I overreacted and misinterpreted your post.

That’s true. We got a run off of him. That was a win in my mind. But then again, I grew up following the 67 Cardinals when a single run would win a game. We went to St. Louis once. Gibson was pitching. I went to the concession stand. Lou Brock got on, stole 2B, stole 3B. He scored. That was the only run of the game. I learned to stay put after that.

Yeah Bob Gibson with a era of 1.12 for the entire season will never be duplicated again by starting pitcher… I was a big Cardinal fan growing up because I loved Lou Brock and was always just blown away with the talent of Gibby…

The first MLB game I ever saw in person was in KC
Royals vs Red Sox
Willie Wilson scored with an inside the park HR
And the Royals won 1-0
That’s not something you see every day

To me, our success against Skenes yesterday, was not that we hit him that well, we struggled against a really great pitchers. Most hitters do.
However, our hitters battled him and got his pitch count up. The longer he pitched, he started losing a little command. He had previously thrown a high of 106 pitches in a game. I don’t know the outcome of that game, but I assume he won.
He pitched well over 100 yesterday. More than 106 and he wasn’t as dominate.
He is a great pitcher, but our hitters were good enough and didn’t make it easy for him.
Shores was pitching pretty well against us as well. I said yesterday that I thought they made a mistake in pulling him and bringing in Little. That’s when we did most of our damage. We blew him up.
We got the lead, added to it and Smith did a great job of closing it out!
we have a really good team.

Loved those teams. I think I listened to every game. Often forgotten about Lou was how great he was in the field. I have a poster, autographed, of him stealing that base in San Diego to break the record. He was one of may favorites along The Wizzard.
Now that was baseball!

You make predictions, your open to being called out on it when your wrong! That’s why I stay away from predictions. So, let’s look at the other side, LSU sweeps the Hogs, you wouldn’t of said I told you so? Not a peep from you if we had been swept? I don’t have a problem w it, but two sides to every coin.
Skenes threw 105 pitches to 25 hitters, allowed two hits and one run, walked three, struck out 12. That’s dominant. But we didn’t let them build a lead, and then we got to their bullpen bigtime in the 10th. And a big strikeout guy is gonna throw a lot of pitches anyway (it takes at least three for a K unless the pitch clock gets involved; he averaged 4.2 pitches per batter).
I credit that win to Hollan and Hagen for holding them down until we beat up their bullpen during free baseball.
