Ken Hamlin vents about Arkansas' defense

Here is Clay’s recap from Hamlin’s speech at the Northwest Arkansas Touchdown Club: http://www.wholehogsports.com/news/2017 … fensively/

Double wow.

Wow first to Hamlin, a great Hog and pro whose opinions on defensive toughness to me carry a lot of weight. I think he nailed a great big chunk of what has been wrong with the defense.

A second wow to see what Clay’s done the last few days. I’ve been on this board a looong time, and the normally mild-mannered Mr. Henry, in my opinion, is setting a harder tone on coaching staff and players than I can remember during previous tough times. I know he’s reporting what Kenny Hamlin said, but the story to me is one more indication that Clay has probably seen and heard about enough.

One of my fav Hogs of all time

Great article / Great player / Brings back great memories.

Great article. I have often wondered why at times we don’t stand up all are down lineman and create movement long the line prior to the snap. Our down 3 down lineman as a group are not talented enough to take on the blocks from a base alignment with a hand down. We need defensive movement prior to the ball snap.

I’ve been replaying the Costal Carolina game back for the past hour. Lack of hustle is apparent (at least to me). Two big examples is on Nance (who I believe will be a huge plus in the future). With 7 seconds left in the half Cole threw an INT and Nance touched the DB on the arm rather than tackle him. He could have put him down but he did not attempt. Thankfully Patton tackled him and even more thankfully the play was nullified by a penalty. And on the Carolina scoope and score Nance made no attempt to get up (after touching the ball) to go after the defender. Granted he prob would not have caught him but NO effort.

He should have been benched for both of those plays. At least IMO.

These negative people are making the board borderline unreadable! :stuck_out_tongue:

Kenny Hamlin could tackle anybody and man he’d deliver a hit. He would get tossed a few times for targeting and have to adjust.
He hit the nail on the head about man press coverage and bringing the house. The 2 seconds to pass.

It looks like Hamlin knows his stuff and has the passion to motivate. Why coach B isn’t hiring him to teach & coach defense. That may save his (BB) skin.

That is the type player they need to recruit. this is tackle football - not flag football. 3-4, 4-3 1-10 11-0 - does not matter nearly as much as who is making up those numbers. They have failed in a big way to recruit SEC defensive players (or Sunbelt I guess).
