A very shaky Facebook stream, since the “statewide” TV feed isn’t being shown in NWA if there’s no NWA team involved. My Arkadelphia Badgers scored on an 81-yard pass with 3:19 left and intercepted Warren in the end zone at the end for a 28-27 victory. A few comments:
Junior WR Treylon Burks of Warren is a stud duck. He may be the best player Warren has ever produced, and that’s saying something. We need to get him bad next year, but Gus and everybody else will come after him. TD catches of 53 and 91 yards today, plus an interception on defense. But they couldn’t get him the ball on that last drive. (Edited: I learned he made a catch with 12 seconds left followed by the Warren fan running onto the field; when he was tackled inbounds the clock would have run out if the kid doesn’t run out there).
So is Zion Hatley of Arkadelphia. 6-0 180 junior RB with 4.4 speed, close to 1800 yards this year. Richard says the Bielema staff knew about him. The Morris staff needs to find out.
Cannon Turner of Arkadelphia ain’t bad as a dual-threat spread QB either. Only a soph. In two years he might be SEC quality.
Dudley, do we have a quarterback we are recruiting who might play in the fall of 2018 Coach Morris’ first season? I have not kept up with recruiting this year, so I am asking a serious question. A huge key for next season is finding a dual threat quarterback to run this high octane offense, and the field looks wide open right now.
The QBs they are recruiting are Arkansas commit Connor Noland of Greenwood, uncommitted Earle quarterback Gerry Bohanon and blueshirt candidate John Stephen Jones of Highland Park, Texas.
Although I have met the new offensive assitants, I don’t know these coaches well enough yet to know whether they would put one into the fire.
Bohnaon might have the edge because he is going to be an early enrollee - apparently at Arkansas, Baylor or North Carolina - and could go through spring practice.
Coach Morris is selling early playing time.
But I always think it is best for a true freshman QB to learn that first season.
