Johnson, Harris nominated for PFHOF

For the 100th anniversary of the NFL, the Pro Football Hall of Fame is planning to induct 15 people (10 long-ago players, three contributors and two coaches) as a Centennial Class next summer in Canton, Ohio. The nominees were announced today and two have Arkansas connections.

Jimmy Johnson is nominated as coach of the Cowboys with two Super Bowl wins. Of course Jimmy was a UA player and then assistant, and wanted to be our head coach as well. But things worked out for him just fine.

Cliff Harris grew up in Hot Springs and Des Arc, played at Ouachita and then was an All-Pro safety in Dallas for seemingly forever. And for the Razorback angle here, his little brother Tommy played for the Hogs.

NFL HOF nominees

There will also be five modern-day players enshrined next summer; one of the 25 semifinalists for that is Steve Atwater.
