Jeff Traylor to Arkansas

This guy may be best recruiter on staff!

Any info?

Sonny Cumbie is new SMU coach. Reports say Traylor is joining Hogs staff and won’t coach in Bowl.

Awesomeness is on the loose and gaining speed.

Thought it was Sonny Dykes.

Keith,

According to the Dallas Morning News you thought correctly. Sonny Dykes is the new SMU Head Coach and will coach them in the bowl game.

Barry

Traylor was at Morris’ introductory press conference wearing a Razorback lapel pin. The thought among those we spoke with that day was that he would come to Arkansas if he did not get the full-time job at SMU.

I moved to East Texas for a year after I graduated from the UA and worked for the Longview News-Journal. While I was there, I got to know Jeff fairly well while covering Gilmer, the high school he coached. At the time, it was a 3A school on a 5A scale, but was flush with talent every year. They’d have whipped 7A state champs in Arkansas. The year I covered them, they were state runner-ups.

Jeff is a great guy. Very charismatic. Not a surprise to me that he’s risen through the coaching ranks like he has. This is a big get.

Congrats on your new job! Hope you’ll have some time to give us some insight here.

And he’s also Celtics fan.

We have already had a great conversation about the 1960s team, Hondo, Larry Bird and Joe Kleine.

I think we are going to get along just fine.

I really like the personalities and Charisma of the the new guys

This is what gets us in trouble… really! Now, we’ll do like we did with Coach B…we’ll be enamored for 4 or 5 years and it will take us that long to figure out if it was a good or bad hire…Too early to make this type comment. Let’s wait till the season gets here and see how the team improves…a little objectivity goes a long way!

If Traylor can bring to Fayetteville what he did in Gilmer, look out! It could be special.

You can be excited. The recruiting efforts we are seeing are unprecedented at Arkansas. The previous staff recruited hard, but nothing like these guys so far.

It was quick to see that bret and co were complete dullards on the sideline though, come game day. I think they had some success recruiting, but missed one just as many.

Let’s be excited about Chad and his staff and should be until given a reason not to be.

Traylor and Morris are so much more connected in Texas than any coaches we have ever had in the modern era. I am very excited about the Talent that they MIGHT be able to sign. Our fanbase is already going overboard emotionally so the over-hype is going to create a let down.

The reality is that the Oline and Dline are in bad shape and it will take next year’s recruits to fix that issue. CCM is going to have a tough first year on defense, especially if Gooden doesn’t make it. Our secondary is going to be very good next year and capable of carrying coverage longer than recent times. The LB’s have NO depth and fatigue shows up before half time. We have to get some young players on the field at LB to provide depth.

I hope CCM will morph his offense to fit our personnel to some degree because our QB position is in a quandary. We have talent but the ones that fit CCM’s offense have not played a snap. The oline needs competition behind Wallace to make him get up or get out. Colton Jackson needs to get a mean streak that will be consistent because of competition behind him too. What are we going to do with all of the TE’s? I see O’Grady, Patton and Gragg thriving in this offense with their athleticism, but Cantrell may need to move to DE and could be a stud. Kraus at 6-5 250 may need to find another position too.

It isn’t just the effort but more importantly the connections in Texas HS programs that we have not had in modern times.

Absolutely.

I’m excited.

I’m excited too, but been down this road before…we’re currently 14th in the SEC in recruiting for the 2018 class

I think most fans have no idea how much UT, OU, A&M, and OKSt have worked to keep us, Neb, and LSU limited in Texas. OU bought their way into recruits and schools for 50 years and have OU linked coaches at many TX HS programs. We have tried to recruit Texas without the benefit of HS linked coaches like OU and OKSt, and we tried to recruit with non-texan coaches OR Texans with few connections. I am amazed that we were able to hire TEXANS as coaches that have this much prestige among TXHSFB coaches. Chad Morris, Joe Craddock, Dustin Fry, Justin Stepp, Mark Smith, and now Jeff Traylor have their Texas connections and experience that we have never had in recent times. We may have hired one coach with decent TXHSFB connections but none were even close to Morris and Traylor.

And we are going to be low ranked because of the number of slots we can offer. This class is a wash and let’s hope for the best we can get with a coaching change turmoil as well as the early signing date.

Was a Celtic fan when they had bill Russell, jo jo white, satch sanders, k c Jones, Havlechec, know I misspelled that so don’t need to be reminded, don Nelson. What a team. A shame about the injury earlier in the year, it was horrifying. Still need a big man I think
