Jamario Bell will miss several weeks with foot injury

A foot injury in the pre-season? Where have I heard that before?

What the heck is the deal with Arkansas and foot injuries.

All signs to me personally point toward the weight training. Not sure if that’s the actual reason, but something as simple as bad shoes paired with heavy training puts a lot of stress on the feet.

Do other schools have as much problems with feet injuries as we do?

I too have felt that the standing lifts of crazy high weight has stressed some bones in the legs and feet. Jonathan Williams’ injury was the first time it started to become apparent we had a trend that was developing. I doubt the human body was designed to left 600 lbs.

All schools like weights like this but I have never seen this many foot problems.
If not the shoes what about the field??
Uneven, bad spoys etc…

Are you sure all schools do these same lifts at these weights? Nike didn’t make a shoe design just for UofA so other schools use this same structural support design. If it was the shoes it would be a problem at most other Nike schools. Our field is a popular brand so all other schools that use it would have foot injuries too. The thing we do differently is the crazy weightlifting in the manner and that we do it more than annual test lifting.

This is a bad trend. Really feel sorry for this young man. Looked like he finally had found his place and now this.

It is highly possible that the off season lifting of some extreme weight is creating stress fractures that are not apparent until the stress of summer camp. Standing lifts create stress that is straight downward gravity. The running and cutting under contact and speed creates dynamic loading that is lateral impact stress. This has been going on for 3+ years.

Here are a few

Lot of pictures of players lifting tons of weights at various colleges but the technique may be different

Someone stepped/fell on JWill’s foot, I think that happened to Dre in the end zone against Bama, too. You can’t blame the lifting on those breaks, also, Herb was his S&C guy at Wisconsin, no problems there. Maybe access to fresher milk from the dairies up there built up their bones…

This whole thread is based on the conclusion that Arkansas experiences more foot injuries than other schools. How do we know that there aren’t plenty of other schools with as many foot injuries?

pre stressed bones break easier no matter how it is impacted to break. Is Herbs using the same exact lifting programs and sequences here with no changes?

The foot injury conspiracy theorists are back!

I’d like to know if our experience with foot injuries is greater than average & if so, how much so. Unless we’re way outside the average and unless there’s been a huge increase in such injuries over the past few years, I’m perfectly willing to accept it as just part of the game. If we’re well outside the norm, then I’d like to hear something. Let’s remember that sometimes the coin lands on heads several times in a row. Just because we’ve had an upsurge (or seem to have), doesn’t necessarily mean anything. That’s why I’d love to see some data. I’d also like to hear from an orthopedist if any are on the board.

I would like to hear an Orthopedic opinion but that person would have to know about the extreme lifting we have been doing. All teams do seasonal max lifting sessions but how many do the repeated work we do? Prior to Herbs coming on board all I remember is Knile Davis breaking ankles or foot bones and his was supposed be a chronic issue personally. The list below is full of high speed impact and/or lateral cut runners at LB, WR, and RB.

It seems to me this rash of foot injuries coincides with the development of the new practice field built a few years ago. Just a thought.

If this is tied to the S&C regimens we’re practicing, you’d think it was also a problem for Bielema and Herbert at Wisky. Was it? I don’t know.

That is assuming that Herbs didn’t add any new regimens or adjust the program when they got to Arkansas. Herbs has done a great job but one thing that concerns me is that Herbs is treated as if nobody can question his 600 lbs lifts. One issue should not define you just like Drew Morgan’s actions in the Belk bowl should not define him. Herbs has done a great job but there is an area that needs to be questioned with the broken feet.

My theory is that based on the number of turnovers/sacks we had on offense last year and the points per game/total yards we gave up on defense, most of these injuries involve guys shooting themselves in the foot.
