It’s a waste of prime newspaper space

I don’t care much for the ADG sports editor for a number of reasons, but today is another one. The Razorback baseball team has been the consensus #1 team the country playing another top team for the SEC lead & he’s writing another column about why a horse trainer wasn’t at the Preakness. How many sports fans in this state are more interested in that than Razorback baseball?

Seems to me if he wants to write about horse racing so often, (next he’ll be writing about some local softball tournament) he should take space on an inside page & give that prime space to writers who write about things people care about. Of course I know that’s not happening.

I quit reading Newspapers long time ago. At this point in time they are a dying industry that just tries to find enough fluff to print to make room for selling ads. They are endangered on the path to extinction.

They’re still the best source of news for state & local matters. You’re right, they’re dying off, but it’s too bad.

-ally - all is a joke. Not a funny joke.

He’s a strange guy.

He’d be more apt to write about it if we were struggling or if there were some kind of controversy.

He’d have written about it if asu had won its game against us

Back in my college days on the front row of the student section of the basketball arena. We use to give Smally Balls hell. He’d write about the basketball games without even attending them and get stuff screwed up completely. One evening I saw him sitting there in front of us and got his attention and Commended him for deigning to show up to the game he was going to write about before he screwed it up like usual. He face immediately got furious red and he gave me the finger. WE got a good laugh in the student section.

Stopped reading the paper due to him around that time and his pitiful coverage. Never picked it back up.

Must have pics of someone petting farm animals to still be employed. I refuse to read anything Corporal Obvious writes.

Wally grew up under the watchful eye of Fred Morrow, the sports editor of the Democrat. Fred did not like the Razorbacks, nor did his boss, John Robert Starr. I just think his attitude is partly due to that time he worked for those guys. They influenced him, and that influence just still exists.

He also does not like baseball, so he doesn’t really make it a priority in his sports section. There are a few thousand horse racing fans in this state and a few million Razorback fans. Why not cater to your readers? It is a mystery.

DIdn’t know about Fred Morrow, but I did know John Robert Star didn’t like the Razorbacks. Also knew Smally Balls cut his three teeth under that type of attitude.

I’ve told this story before, but it bears repeating. Mother and Daddy lived in Bella Vista. They subscribed to the Demozette. Daddy complained about the sports editor. I suggested that he subscribe to the Morning News of NWA. He did and then called to cancel the Demozette. The operator asked why he was canceling. He told her it was because of _ally _all. She said, “We get that a lot.”

NOT rocket science here. That just shows where his heart is really at.
Does he even need to be in that place???

If your posting about his column then his mission is accomplished.

This website is a newspaper silly. Selling ads everyday.

It’s a website, not a newspaper. It’s a great place for Razorback news. It takes more than ads to make something a newspaper. If that’s all it took, a high school annual is a newspaper

I actually miss getting the paper, but there was no way I was paying $32 per month for Sunday only. We won’t have to wait long for _ally to retire. His paper is about to fold around him. Very sad for those of us who like reading material in the bathroom.

Read the wrapper of your toilet paper. That will give you more interesting/useful information than any of _ally’s columns.

Once had a friend that said his dream was
to grab Wally by the ankles and beat
John Robert Starr to death with him

The vast majority of his columns are about the Razorbacks. Here’s a list- https://www.wholehogsports.com/staff/wally-hall/stories/

The Preakness is one most prestigious races in the sport and Bob Baffert is a high profile trainer who has a history of horses failing tests. I see nothing wrong writing about the race and Baffert.

As someone pointed out, this site is owned by the ADG. The ADG is digital six days a week so I guess you can still call it a paper or whatever.

As far as I know, despite the pandemic the ADG is still doing very well.

Of course most his columns are about the Razorbacks. But for three weeks he’s written about horse racing with very few exceptions. Name one column about the #1 ranked Razorback baseball team all season
