Bielema has been spotted with New England folks a couple of times the past week. He was at the NFL Combine in Indianapolis last week and at Alabama’s pro day today.
CBB is on CBB’s radar. I believe they have known each other for awhile. That would be a tremendous rebound for Bret and cheap help for Bill with the Hogs footing the bill.
That might get Ragnow on Bill’s radar as Bret is crazy about him and N. E. could use offensive line help.
I looked up Bielema’s contract. I wasn’t sure the offset of what we owe him included pro sports jobs, but it does. You’re right that this gig with the Pats probably a drop in the bucket, but if it led to an NFL coordinator’s job, for instance, that would be a significant offset.
I hope Bret winds up in the NFL. And happy. I get so frustrated when our fanbase decides to “hate” a coach that disappoints them. Bret is a good guy. And he left our program better than he found it in every way. Just didn’t win enough…and its Chad’s time.
Great post, I feel the very same way, he’s not done coaching by any stretch. Getting 4/5 star players to campus iwas not the problem getting them to stay was the issue for CBB and it’s to early to tell if CCM will be able to improve in that area. WPS
The program as a whole is a lot better than it was when he took it over. He didn’t win enough, that is a fact and the sole reason he is unemployed. He handled the job well and he brought in good kids and good students. That’s important to a lot of us, even if it isn’t for you.
He did not handle the job well - he is the worst coach Arkansas has had since Otis Douglas. A complete disaster - most 30+ losses, most ever rushing yards given up in an SEC game, etc. I could go on for days.
Some fans long for a highly competitive product that’s consistently relevant on the SEC stage. Winning is the most important thing while the things you mention are part of the equation as well but make no mistake winning is the focus
Some fans seem to be more concerned with having good students and citizens even if it means 11-29.They can live with indefinite mediocrity if there are no arrests and GPA’s are high. Sorry, but IMO that’s the “Vandy way” and it’s not to be tolerated at Arkansas.
Thankfully, enough of the “good ole boys” aren’t fond of the Commodore model.
Don’t expect the last word in this discussion. Many of us see it differently, and think the program is in better shape, even if it was time to make change.
Many may think the program is in better shape, but there are also many that think Bielema was a disaster that left Morris a team that was dispirited, out of shape, lacking confidence, and a perennial SEC West doormat. If your definition of “good shape” is finishing last or next to last in the SEC West four out of five years then I’d LOVE to see what you think “bad shape” would be!
CBB turned a “shell of a program” into a “shell of a program”… how anybody could be satisfied with the team we put on the field under the man is confusing.
I am not sure anyone said they were satisfied with the results of the team we put on the field, just disagreed with how some define the state of the program.
First of all, Jackson, I hadn’t seen you post in several days and was genuinely concerned that something bad had happened to you, so I’m glad to see you back. I don’t agree completely with you. I do think academically and in character, CBB greatly improved the program. But I do agree–and how can anybody disagree–that in the record book and the overall on-the-field product was greatly lacking. I do believe there’s talent in the cupboards, but Morris will have his work cut out for him to make it acceptable talent in the SEC. To a degree, CBB was very good for Arkansas, but in getting us back to winning ways, he was not good at all.
The worst coach since Otis Douglas? John L. Smith and Jack Crowe say hello. Now you are just being silly.
BB did not work out here, but other people who have had success in football seem to think he has something to offer. BB may find his way back to success in coaching again, many a coach has failed in one job and later succeeded in another. Like the other BB who coaches the Patriots, who flopped in his first NFL HC job.
