Isaiah Campbell pitched today

Dave Van Horn said Campbell threw a nice bullpen after he ruled him out Wednesday, so coaches decided to give him an inning this weekend.

His velocity was down quite a bit. He was throwing mid-to-upper 80s when at full health he’s low-to-mid 90s. Van Horn liked the movement on his pitches and thinks he’ll be better the next time out. Today was the first time that he has thrown to live batters in about three weeks, so that would explain some of the rustiness.

Arkansas needs Campbell to get back in the starting rotation because the bullpen is not real strong right now collectively. Campbell needs to be able to eat up 5 to 8 innings in a weekend, especially once the midweek games begin.

I would add that based on what I saw today, I don’t think Campbell is going to be 100 percent until at least conference play. He’s going to have to get his pitch count up over the next couple of weekends.

He seemed to get more comfortable as he went along.

It was good to see him get in the game.
