I am talking about going toe to toe against Oklahoma, Texas, Bama, etc. and winning a commitment. That was few and far between with the previous staff and may be too much to expect this early with the new one. We have an instate prospect that could be the first one. That could be a big jump start to this recruiting class or it could be a big disappointment.
1 player drafted this year that he recruited. Not counting David Williams because he is a grad transfer.
I think Chad has show the ability to beat the big guys already. Just this past recruiting class he beat out Texas, Auburn, A&M, Florida and some others for some big time gets. Wins and evidence will help tremendously. But seeing that he had 3 guys drafted this year from SMU shows how he has an eye for talent as well as developers. In no year should SMU have more draft picks than an SEC school.
Coach B just couldn’t get enough to win the way fans wanted him to win.
They developed plenty.
Coach Morris and his staff are certainly getting after it on the recruiting trail, but any one objective would still have to say the jury has not come back with a judgement yet.
If I recall he was headed to Uconn, surely we could beat them out even if I was the coach. And a grad transfer is largely already developed when they get there, seeing as that’s the reason a team is usually taking a grad transfer, they want someone to walk right in, ready.
I think Bret did some good things recruiting. (Rank wise and grabbing a few big names) But his lack of vision and ability to develop SEC talent was shown on the field. He had poor roster management and it showed up and cost him his job, add on top that he was possibly the worst in game coach Ive seen in razorback red.
He caught some bad luck, but that’s not the reason he lost his job. He lost it because he did a really bad job.
I’m fairly sure the SEC West was much stronger during CBB time as a Head Coach.
CBB just couldn’t recruit as well as everyone hope he could. So he just couldn’t win enough games to please the fan base.

[/quote]It seems a waste to spend all this time throwing stones at the Coach who is no longer here, but just one man’s opinion. I have great hopes in the new Coach and staff, but also recognize as enthusiastic as I am, they have not won anything yet.
I just never have understood when fans become fans of the coach and not the program. So many got caught up in liking Bret personally it fogged up the glasses on how he was doing his job. I’ve just seen too much deflection of his responsibilities that he failed on, and he deserves some credit, not much. He did help bring the grades up on the team, and that’s great. But at the end of the day we don’t pay to see their report cards.
He’s a fine man, we all assume that to be mostly true. But he did not do a good job, plain and simple.
This is just a general statement on this, something I’ve noticed, not intended for anyone specifically.
I actually thought that about our last basketball coach, then I realized he did better than I thought with off court stuff. It was on court, I don’t believe he was ready for. I think the same thing with Bret (I was not a Bret fan from the beginning). I think after a few years people will realize how much he improved off the field issues that were here. It’s on the field where he struggled. Not sure either sabatoged, but can definitely see where it comes from.
I haven’t seen anybody on this thread say anything in defense of CBB that intimated he shouldn’t have lost his job. 11-29 is pretty indefensible. He’s no longer our coach. To say that he won more recruiting wars against the big names than other coaches did is not saying he did a good job coaching or developing or winning and that he should still be here. I don’t believe Richard or Dudley said that. They just said he did have his share of victories on the recruiting trail. The record shows he didn’t have enough. Let’s let the dead bury the dead, and let’s move on to the CCM regime. Will he win big-time recruiting victories was the original poster’s question? The answer will come soon.
LOL - as long as folks try to spin things ( Bret was a better recruiter than Nutt, etc.) I’ll continue to bring up the facts of the Otis Bielema/ Bret Douglas reign of error !
Again, I’ve not seen spin from anybody about recruiting. Has anybody said Bielema was a better recruiter than Nutt? I haven’t read it. I have read that he beat out the blue bloods more for recruits than Nutt/Petrino, but none of these fine reporters have declared him to be a better overall recruiter than Nutt/Petrino. If they say that, then I’d question that.
They have actually said that before. During the season, the question was asked about who the better recruiter/coach was. I believe both RD and DD said Bret was the better recruiter, but Petrino was the best X’s and O’s guy. I also remember someone saying Nutt may have been the best at getting the most out of his players.
