Interesting tidbit on Justin Fuente

Virginia Tech’s first-year coach was the co-offensive coordinator for TCU when the Horned Frogs beat Bret Bielema’s Wisconsin team in the Rose Bowl several years back.

He revived a moribund Memphis program. Kids played hard for him & is innovative offensively.

It’s scary what he is going to do to our defense.

I noted this in my 5 things to know about VT story yesterday, but Fuente has developed a reputation as a great quarterback developer. Two of the 32 NFL starters right now were tutored by him in college - Andy Dalton at TCU and Paxton Lynch at Memphis.

Another interesting Fuente tidbit: He played high school football for Bill Blankenship at Tulsa Union. Bill Blankenship’s current job? Fayetteville High School, where he just won the state 7A title.

Blankenship was an offensive analyst for Fuente at Memphis in 2015.

As noted, he played HS football in Tulsa. He started 8 games for the 96 Sooners under Coach John Blake, throwing for 1200+ yards, 8 TD’s with 10 interceptions. He was named the starter in 97, but only played in 5 games. After transferring to Murray St., he was named Ohio Valley Conference Offensive player of the year in 1999. Still holds a few passing records at Murray.

Wouldn’t be surprised to see him end up coaching one day in the SEC or Big12. Excellent coach. :sunglasses:
