If the coaching hire turns out to be Lunney, or Drinwitz, but especially Lunney, the athletic department may need to be prepared for a backlash that they may not be prepared for. We all saw the fan mutiny that happened at Tennessee two years ago. Athletic department personnel all the way to the top of the chain lost their jobs over that in a matter of days. I’m not sure our fan base is as passionate (psycho crazy) as the Vol fans, but this could become one of those uncharted territory events. Extremely upset fans can create havoc in ways beyond griping on message boards. Not violence (I don’t think?), but who knows what the masses could do. They triumphed over a 50 year coach and AD when enough started an insurrection against HDN. Got him an earlier than planned retirement, got a coach to leave when he didn’t want to, simply to stabilize the fan base. The BOT and the AD might need to consider this. The public won’t always fall in line just because those in charge feel they know best. The thing is, Tennessee fans are probably still congratulating themselves because their actions saved the program in their eyes.

What fan mutiny at Tenn 2 yrs ago? Small minority didn’t want Schiano and the media had a heyday with that (what else is new). But to your point about Ark fans creating havoc if Lunney is hired, I actually think it might be the opposite. I will wager now that IF he is hired (I still don’t think it will happen), and barring something disastrous between now and opening game next year, RRS will be filled with thousands of excited and expectant fans…eager to see how their very popular favorite son is going to do.
If it’s Lunney… we just wasted 3 weeks of recruiting. And yes, there would be major backlash, unfortunately for Lunney.

I have to agree. Feels like a terrible hire. I’m sure he’s a lovely man and has certainly given all to the program but it isn’t an inspirational hire. No butts in seats. But would love to be proven wrong
Could be, but I don’t see it. Maybe if it was someone the general fan base had a built in dislike for, but i don’t think Lunney is perceived by the typical hog fan with the ultra scrutiny most on this board on turning on him now.

I don’t know a single person, that is happy about this right now. I have a wide variety of hog fans, from mild mannered to me. Even the mildest are pissed at the idea of a 3 week search that ends up with a TE coach that was on the staff with no HC experience. Should’ve let him start recruiting weeks ago.
What the hell, we are already the laughing stock of the SEC, we might as well hire an assistant coach with 7 years experience as a TE coach as our new HC. Just give the SEC and ESPN writers and sportscasters more to laugh at us about. Should be a real hoot on gameday on ESPN, or whatever the SECN calls their gameday show. Of course this hire would be so pathetic, they might just feel sorry for us.

I like BLJ, but if he is our head coach, we have screwed this royally. We will never recover from this. Total failure by Those concerned. We will continue to be the laughing stock of collage football
