I Encourage Board Folks

To obviously practice all the hygiene and social distancing stuff that’s been covered…BUT a HUGE deal is take any medical protective equipment you have bought over the last few weeks to your local doctors office or hospital!!! Please!!

I was on a hospital call Thursday night and it is clear as day that we (healthcare workers) are going to run out of personal protective equipment(masks, isolation gowns, face masks or goggles, etc). I tried buying some for my clinic workers last week and our supplier was already sold out. This is critical to our response to COVID, bc we will need Docs and nurses and other providers to NOT get sick. This equipment is their only line of defense.

I had a local construction company (I treat the owners family) call our hospital and donated several CASES of the N95 masks that his business had in storage for their workers. That’s what needs to happen all across the country now and in the next few months.

Please do your part. Thanks.

Thank you hogdr for taking the time out of your hectic day to enlighten this board how serious this pandemic is. What precautions we must take.
Much respect Sir.

Most of us RV people have disposable gloves we use when emptying the black tanks. I packaged up some of mine and shared with the folks here in our condo neighborhood to use if they have to get gas or shop.
Share. From a distance.

even at Vandy we have been on extreme restriction for more than a month in anticipation of running out of PPE. Mt. Sinai in NY is out completely. Some of the OR nazis are stressed because personal scrub hats are now encouraged. JChaO was hard on anyone wearing a mask out of the OR last time those turds came thru. Now you get one mask all day and all night. N 95’s are being donated and accumulated.

Corsair distillery here in town is taking their byprodudt alcohol (very potent) and making hand sanitizer and donating it. Great effort and very effective. Lots of ingenuity poping up. Thank god for creativity.

If the China model holds then we have about 6-8 weeks for complete resolution. Only one mutation that I am aware of… SARS-CoV-2 which has the same susceptibilty and impact. Bad news is that there is mutation. Because it is novel, none of our native immunity is working, but that is what makes it novel.

I am going to copy what one of my former activist residents posted on Facebook. I think it is easy reading if you want to understand the scientific understanding of COVID genetics. Raj posts daily and often on FB which is actually editing to the max, so if you want a daily update then check him out.

HEAR YE, HEAR YE!!! To all the non-believers who think this is media hype, read along and be educated.

Feeling confused as to why Coronavirus is a bigger deal than Seasonal flu? Here it is in a nutshell. I hope this helps. Feel free to share this to others who don’t understand…

It has to do with RNA sequencing… I.e. genetics.

Seasonal flu is an “all human virus”. The DNA/RNA chains that make up the virus are recognized by the human immune system. This means that your body has some immunity to it before it comes around each year… you get immunity two ways…through exposure to a virus, or by getting a flu shot.

Novel viruses, come from animals… the WHO tracks novel viruses in animals, (sometimes for years watching for mutations). Usually these viruses only transfer from animal to animal (pigs in the case of H1N1) (birds in the case of the Spanish flu). But once, one of these animal viruses mutates, and starts to transfer from animals to humans… then it’s a problem, Why? Because we have no natural or acquired immunity… the RNA sequencing of the genes inside the virus isn’t human, and the human immune system doesn’t recognize it so, we can’t fight it off.

Now… sometimes, the mutation only allows transfer from animal to human, for years it’s only transmission is from an infected animal to a human before it finally mutates so that it can now transfer human to human… once that happens…we have a new contagion phase. And depending on the fashion of this new mutation, thats what decides how contagious, or how deadly it’s gonna be…

H1N1 was deadly…but it did not mutate in a way that was as deadly as the Spanish flu. It’s RNA was slower to mutate and it attacked its host differently, too.

Fast forward.

Now, here comes this Coronavirus… it existed in animals only, for nobody knows how long…but one day, at an animal market, in Wuhan China, in December 2019, it mutated and made the jump from animal to people. At first, only animals could give it to a person… But here is the scary part… in just TWO WEEKS it mutated again and gained the ability to jump from human to human. Scientists call this quick ability, “slippery”

This Coronavirus, not being in any form a “human” virus (whereas we would all have some natural or acquired immunity). Took off like a rocket. And this was because, Humans have no known immunity…doctors have no known medicines for it.

And it just so happens that this particular mutated animal virus, changed itself in such a way the way that it causes great damage to human lungs…

That’s why Coronavirus is different from seasonal flu, or H1N1 or any other type of influenza… this one is slippery AF. And it’s a lung eater…And, it’s already mutated AGAIN, so that we now have two strains to deal with, strain s, and strain L…which makes it twice as hard to develop a vaccine.

We really have no tools in our shed, with this. History has shown that fast and immediate closings of public places has helped in the past pandemics. Philadelphia and Baltimore were reluctant to close events in 1918 and they were the hardest hit in the US during the Spanish Flu.

Factoid: Henry VIII stayed in his room and allowed no one near him, till the Black Plague passed…(honestly…I understand him so much better now). Just like us, he had no tools in his shed, except social isolation…

And let me end by saying…right now it’s hitting older folks harder… but this genome is so slippery…if it mutates again (and it will). Who is to say, what it will do next.

Be smart folks… acting like you’re unafraid is so not cool right now.

#flattenthecurve. Stay home folks… and share this to those that just are not catching on.

Thank you razorbacker as well. I trust what you guys say on here more than anyone because you / we are family.
Spread the word & do the needful all.

The daBoars are…we’re not bothering doctors and nurses at their places of work, while we shelter and gripe about the stock market.

Thank you rayzabackerii. I’ve shared his post on Facebook. I can only hope that people bother to read and understand.

Thanks! That was very informative, and SCARY. This should be mandatory reading material for our outrageous spring breakers on the beaches spreading it to the masses.

Dependent on your employer. PERIOD.

I bought some protective masks. They came from China. I now believe they are worthless against Covid 19. The masks that the doctors and hospitals need are identified as N95 masks. They filter really small particles like this virus.
