I am not trying to start any thing.

If, as in big if, we were to look for a new coach, where would we look? It seems that Ole Miss will be looking for a new coach. TN and MO may be looking. There may be several teams looking for a new start. Do we look for an experienced coach or youth with potential. I don’t know and I hope we will not be looking for a new coach because the ship has bee righted.

Matt Campbell should be taken under consideration. I’m sure he’s on JL’s short list.

Impressive at Toledo and has already matched his first year win total at Iowa State with the win at OU in second year of the ISU rebuild

Winning at Little Rock as a 20 point dog and Norman as a 30 point dog suggests he can coach up his available talent. Others I would think would be on the list:

Jeff Brohm - Purdue
Chad Morris - SMU
Mike Norvell - Memphis
Scott Frost - UCF
Mike Bobo - Colorado State
Neal Brown - Troy
Brent Venables - Clemson DC
Frank Wilson - UTSA
Mike Yurich - Ok State OC

We don’t have to concern ourselves that Ole Miss could hire a coach we want. No coach of any note would come to a program on probation who has lost 20-40 scholarships. They will be lucky if Matt Luke doesn’t leave for greener pastures. Maybe they can get Archie to come coach since he helped get them in this mess by pushing for Freeze’s hire.

Of all the names on that list, my vote is Venables. Passion and a stout defensive mindset. Yes, please.

He’s interviewed here twice

Before Coach Petrino was hired, it was down to Will Muschamp and Brent Venables.

Both had their agents call me. Clearly they thought I had more power than I do, but it was a nice compliment at the time.

Says here he also interviewed when CBB was hired…

[/quote]This is fascinating.

The numerous Clemson fans that I hang around with are convinced Venables (who is well paid by the way) is going nowhere except for one position. Kansas State University.

And who would have hired at the time?

And which of the two would you hire now?

Chad Morris rumors have him going to A&M. In my opinion he would be a HR hire, we would finally be able to recruit in Texas again.

Question?

Think about Ole Miss, if they get the best coach he has no pressure to win at first.
He can take his time building the recruiting base and take his time getting the players stronger and faster.

Then when probation is over you are ready

someone like Jeremy Pruitt, current def coord for the Tide. Saban obviously has it going on at Bama. Maybe we could get someone who could bring in some of those processes.

There has always been talk of “coaching trees.” Maybe it’s time to tap into Saban’s?

Pruitt knows how to recruit and play defense. I don’t know how strong he is on offense.

I’d add Joe Moorehead to the list

Of those mentioned a couple of common themes: up and comers with little to no sec experience.

Others mentioned are spread offense guys to which much of our personnel does not fit.

Finally, few of those have recruiting ties to the south. Took bielema at least 2 years to figure out recruiting down here.

Let the season play out first before any up and comers are the next can’t miss coach

Venables may or may not wanna leave. Kansas state is his chosen place for sure
