------------------- I am amazed how much Matt Zimmerman never has a concise comment, how he goes on and on until Chuck almost has to shove him out of the way to make the call on the play that is continuing on the court. Zimmerman is still talking about the previous play while shots are being made, fouls called, turnovers, etc. Is this a normal broadcast?
Pretty much
Actually I have noticed that before. And today Chuck had to step right in and take a charge from Zim. LOL
Zimmerman is a great guy but he cannot control himself. He either does not understand color is augment the call not overwhelm. He apparently varies in doing a pretty good job and then a door open without closure on the broadcast. He is also a homer. Sorry, but I wish someone would tell him he needs to seek a critique of his work. Again he seems to be a nice guy and an obvious Razorback.
This!!
And HOW is Zim not being told of this performance? Great guy I have meet & talked a few times. But somebody needs to inform him him of this…
He probably has been informed of this, but brains work the way brains work and some things can’t be changed. I’ve listened to Matt for a while now and he’s just different but if you can get by the anomalies, he’s very sharp on what is going on, on the floor and understanding the flow of the game. I’d compare him to listening to someone like Joe Klein, super knowledgable but not the best verbally.
kw
I had no problem knowing what was going on. That’s my only expectation. It was met.
Zimm is a friend, but unfortunately, he has a voice that grates on you.
Glad the rest of the games are televised.
Joe, as evidenced last evening in his LSU coverage, has progressively accepted the challenge of becoming a solid performer doing solid color. It can be done.
I enjoy his comments on Channel 7 and he does seem like a great guy and loyal Hog fan. If he is going to be a professional radio broadcaster, he just needs to train a little and learn that “less is more” when you are trying to work within the flow of the game. Many ex players and coaches have learned this and gone on to success in broadcasting. That old dog just needs to learn a few new tricks and he might be just fine.
Love Zimm, but he’s cursed with a voice that sounds like he smoked a whole pack of Marlboro menthols while drinking a fifth of Jack.
It’s particularly jarring when you compare his voice to how smooth Chuck’s is. It’s ok, my voice ain’t all that either, and ZimmBob is All Hog.
That’s funny!
I’ve not heard enough of Zimm on the radio broadcast to have an opinion. Bret Dolan on the baseball TV broadcasts talks way too much.
Dolan still sounds like a chorus of angels compared to Zimm, Danny, and I say that as a friend of Zimm’s.
Love the guy, but not the voice.
Thankfully, I don’t have to listen to any more games on the radio.
Don’t mention Beth Mowins voice on this board. You will be labeled a sexist. Trust me on that one….
Don’t care how I’m labeled, Danny.
Mowins is worse than awful.
She makes Zimm’s voice sound like Whitney.
Dolan is fine. He’s obviously a pro. We could have a lot worse. The Alex guy we had on basketball for years was terrible. Just absolutely terrible. He didn’t know the game well, and he mostly only got excited when the other team went on a run. He clearly made a point to remain impartial, and overcorrected in that regard.
He had a very good resume—just not a good fit at all.
Dolan is solid, but he drove me bonkers last year talking about the wind at Baum. He talked about it nonstop. By the end, it became a running joke about which inning he would bring it up and talk about how much it was adversely impacting the Hogs.
It was a real crutch/time filler-especially since both teams have to deal with it.
Alex Perlman did a couple of our soccer games this year. He’s not any better than he was then, but SECN keeps giving him work.
Adam…he drove you more bonkers……
