Credit Hagen for his great outing. Zack gets (well deserved) credit for his terrific close but without Hagen dealing for several innings Zack would not have gotten the chance. Great job Hagen.
Huge start for Hagen. Gave us a chance!!
Hagen was spot on. I noticed both starting pitchers working the same pitches to get batters out. Hagen was a bit better only allowing that 1 dinger.
Let’s not forget Taylor. He was downright nasty last night.
Smith and Taylor both were absolutely phenomenal and obviously what Morris did in the 9th was next level!
I hope he learned last night that that slider he has can be absolutely devastating. He said he threw it more last night than normal and I have always wondered why he did not throw it more. He has a good fastball but when you throw that slider hard and down like he did last night you saw he can be very tough
Billy, his slider has been out of the zone sometimes. He just appeared confident that he could throw it for a strike more last night. His ratio for strikes with the slider was up in the last 2-3 times he’s pitched. As a closer, he could throw mainly fast balls. Can’t as a starter.
He throws his slider with a very low angle; of course he’ll throw a tremendous number well outside to lefties…and not have great confidence throwing to righties. Easy to solve, change that motion slightly.
Maybe he’ll get to that in the summer. But he had a great freshman season.
Yeah I think you will see a different pitcher next year, you will see a lot more consistent starter
He has a bright future who should only be getting better
