True, but it opens doors for the team. Just like in the job market, a college degree or Masters degree opens doors for you, but won’t get you raises or promotions. You must perform in your job to get those.
When you start out the season in the top 10 or 15, you can attain the top 5 and get a top 1 or 2 seed in the NCAA tournament more easily. IF you play up to your pre-season expectations, it opens the doors to bigger and better rewards.
On the flip side it does put a target on your back for your opponents. You’ll get their best game, so you better overlook no team.
