I still have a 9 minute recording from the presentation which was shown on Sports Center. The two from Vandy (Carson Fulmer and Dansby Swanson) were at the CWS. The two players who were in attendance at the award were Andrew Benintendi and Alex Bregman.
And all of their teams made the College World Series that year. The Dick Howser Trophy (the national player of the year as voted on by the NCBWA) presentation is the day before the CWS begins and Benintendi was able to attend it right before practice began.
I was told that his winning that is what spurred the conversation for Arkansas to play the game at Kauffman Stadium a couple of years later.
