Honestly, it doesn’t mean much - especially in baseball. Anything can and does happen in a single game.
Just thought it’s kind of cool to be favored over a tradition-rich program like Texas, playing at their place, even after they are coming off of a weekend series win over highly ranked Texas Tech. Shows where DVH has our program.
Shows just how unstable these rankings are so early in the season. RPI, which has Liberty at #100 and UNC at 25 picks Liberty to win by one run; ELO, which has Liberty at #65 and UNC at #12 picks the Tarheels by 3 runs, which seems the more reasonable pick. As I said in a post a few days ago, ELO is the most stable of the two early on.
Florida was ranked in the Top 5 all of last year, often 1st, and won the conference. Yet were routinely defeated pretty much the whole year in midweek games. LSU has already lost to Northwestern St, so it shows anything can happen in a baseball game, especially if you catch a hot pitcher.
