Future Hog - 2023 class?

A guy who says he is this young man’s Godfather posted this elsewhere. Claims the kid - who is 12 - is a big Hog fan (based on Father’s and Godfather’s influence) and wears #5 because of the DMac videos they have shown him. He is up for something called the Texas Sports Youth League Heisman.

You never know how he will develop, and he may become interested in other teams as he grows up. But it may be worth keeping an eye on him as the years unfold (Fred Gully of the gridiron?).

Dang.

That’s pretty cool.

Kid is so much faster than everyone else on the field.

Kid looks legit but hell the way things are going, we may not even have football in 2023. That scares me. Can you imagine life without football?..

I recently went to see a 7th grader after getting an invite to see him. I really wasn’t too hyped about going to watch the kid because I think it’s way too early, but I will say the kid was head and shoulders above the others.

Interested to see if he plays for the varsity as a ninth grader because he definitely has potential.

[/quote]When my son played in Middle School, there was a kid like this that was head and shoulders above anyone on his team, or the other teams they played. And, I mean that literally. He was 6’ 1 or 2’ and about 200 lbs in 7th/8th grade.

Being by far the most dominant athlete on the team, he played RB and could not be stopped.

As he grew older, he didn’t grow much taller, but he did add weight. He stayed at RB and was an all-DFW player as a sophomore. But by the time he was a senior, he was 6’3" and 250 lbs. Probably ran a 4.7 instead of the 4.5x he could have run if he was a lean 215 or 220. My son said he was telling all the recruiters he would only go to schools that would keep him at RB. I told my son that whether or not he stayed at RB depended on if he would drop 30 lbs, or not. If he did, he would probably get some reps at RB. But his best bet, I said, was to let his natural size flesh out and then earn checks in the NFL. Son relayed that to the kid, who said he was going to stay at RB.

The kid I’m talking about it Henry Melton. He signed with Texas and they promised him RB. He was a short yardage back his true freshman year, the year Texas won the NC with Vince Young. Next season, he was at DE at 270 lbs. and he went on to play with Chicago and Dallas in the NFL at that position.

Many years ago, I watched a seventh-grader (maybe eighth-grader?) playing tight end. I thought, man, that kid is head and shoulders better than everybody else on the team. Just throw it up to him and everybody else is going to have trouble stopping him. He went on to have a great collegiate career and even a pro career. His name was Corliss Williamson. I didn’t say a great football career. You never know at that age how and in what sport they will develop.
