Friday night thoughts

Until I’m told otherwise, I still expect some official announcements about the staff sometime this weekend.

The American Football Coaches Convention begins Sunday in Charlotte. This is where a lot of assistant coaching deals are closed. I expect this year’s convention will be especially active because of the 10th coach rule that goes into effect next week. The convention runs through Wednesday.

A name to consider on special teams is Mark Smith, who was the recruiting coordinator and an analyst at SMU, and has been on staff at Arkansas since Chad Morris was hired. Smith was an all-conference kicker in college. Morris said last month he’ll have a special teams coordinator, who could be an assistant coach or an analyst. “If it’s an off-the-field guy, he would wind up coaching the coaches,” Morris said.

That’s good info Matt. Sounds good and makes sense. I just want to know-is the DC nailed down? I understand wanting to announce the entire staff at one time, make a big splash, but I would like a little reassurance-is the DC position nailed down? Thanks for reply.
