For those Wanting Muss to get Bigs...

… We do need bigs this class, but In his Space and Pace System, you can almost add to it… “Pace, Space And Iso”. He likes to take advantage of mismatches and allow players to create off the dribble.

We currently have 2 guys that can somewhat create off the dribble and they both have negatives that don’t allow them to do it well. Jalen can create, but with his inability to shoot consistently, the paint is too packed for him to create efficiently. Mason Jones can create, but he’s not very swift of foot and not athletic.

I’m sure he sees a glaring need for a player or two that can create offense off the dribble. As glaring as the need is inside, I think this is a much larger need on this team. When going thru those scoring droughts that come for everyone, it’s good to be able to give it to a guy and say, “get a bucket, or get to the line”. If Isaiah Joe ever gets better at that, he’s going to be dangerous.

Pretty good take, I think you also have to factor in what Musselman sees on the roster, what does he think about Gabe, Adrio, Henderson, and Chaney. does he think he can ride with them? with some improvements in their game offensively, some bulk for Henderson, he could be thinking he has what is needed to be successful on the roster right now inside. A lot of people talk about the number of shots, that Bailey and Gabe take, what if they were hitting those shots a little more frequently? How would the floor open up for everybody else, most of all Jalen Harris. They could be key to this offense going forward. I am a firm believer in people being able to make themselves into shooters through practice/repetition, not Joe kind of good, but 35-38% kind of good from deep.

If that is so easy to do why did we shoot so bad from the free throw line all season? Last in the conference bad. If it was that easy, we must be really bad shooters to max out at such a low percentage. I suspect not everyone can reach that competitive level no matter how much they practice and the ones who can don’t go from bad to good overnight or even over one season. JMVVVVVHO.

Rewatching some Nevada games from last season, I heard a commentator say Musselman told him his offense operates better and more efficiently without Trey Porter on the floor. That was in mid-March. Porter was Nevada’s 6-11, 230-pound senior forward who transferred from Old Dominion. If he can, Musselman prefers to go small and positionless. Take this from KenPom on the Wolf Pack’s final five games of the season:

If most of your players on the floor are good rebounders (see all of the 6-7+ players on the floor most of the time for Nevada) you can go position-less. If several of your players are smaller, then you need some good size in a few players to get rebounds. JMVVHO. Seems like Harris was our best rebounding guard and he was at point. Joe, Jones, Sills, not so much.

Mason Jones was the team’s second leading rebounder. Aside from Gafford he was the only player with 100-plus defensive rebounds. Jalen was third in defensive rebounding and Isaiah led all guards in offensive boards, granted he only had 21.

I stand corrected on Jones, was right about Jalen, and really right overall since Joe led the rest with only 21. My point, mostly, still stands.

The obvious shortcoming in rebounding came from the 4’s! There where rebounds should come from.

I expect Coach Muss will fix the 4. WPS

But if you’re playing positionless basketball you don’t have a 4…

Which, by the way, makes it more imperative for Harris to upgrade his offensive game.

[/quote]I see that. Still, Harris was #6 on the team in rebounding; and only 3 behind Adrio.
