For the referee conspiracy crowd

We most definitely got away with pass inteference on that crucial 4th down play at a critical point in the game … against a team much higher in the SEC pecking order.

Of course, I’m positively thrilled to be the benefactor of a blown non call!

Kept waiting on the flag on that one. Not sure how they missed it, but glad they did. We certainly had a few of those coming to us.

The player who made the contact also immediately looked back towards the ref for the flag … that never came.

Yes, that non-call was horrible. I know it went our way, but still hate to see such bad calls in such a big moment. That effectively ended the game. The earlier PI call against EOEk on the bad back-shoulder throw was also pretty bad.

I think the defender got him with the off hand, but I agree, it could have easily been a no call.

With all the screw over calls we have been hit with over the years (Marc Curles) and you want to bring up something as iffy as that, come on.

Jeremy Pruitt talked with referee Matt Loeffler for a long time after that play.

Tennessee was not ranked so the referee conspiracy doesn’t apply.

There were two. A bad call on pass interference against Tennessee and the no call on pass interference for us.

On the same token, I saw multiple holding penalties against their OL that was never called. A couple of them even got the crowd booing because it was so obvious.

We definitely got the good end of that no call. And like the general I saw multiple holds by TN that were not called.

No doubt and if we would have been playing an elite team like Alabama and for sure next week in Florida that would have been automatic…

Personally, I’m so sick of the inconsistency in how offensive line holding calls are administered I wish they would just take it off the books as long as the O-Lineman doesn’t basically wrapped up and tackle or trip the defensive player.

On one of their TDs the left guard not only held but did a wrestling move and actually with his arm across the entire front of the DT turned him backwards. I was afraid it hurt the DT but he was OK. The hold was right where the hole was created by the guy using a full on wrestling move. That was interference but why would an Arkansas fan say conspiracy? If you look at all the calls we have had go against us it’s OBVIOUSLY not a conspiracy. Facts are not conspiracy theories. We won the game fair and square!

I generally dislike blaming the refs even when they miss a call. We get the benefit of replays, sometimes in slow motion, from a camera that’s trained on the event. Officials have to make the judgment in real time by players & plays that are moving very fast. Obviously, there are some things that are blatant that don’t get called & sometimes there are phantom violations that get called, but calls like both those interference ones are understandable. Those tend to balance out against both teams over the course of a game. Unless a ref is unfairly biased—and some probably are—I’m more annoyed about the bad booth reviews.

Back Judge is colorblind … jersey confusion.

If you are going to have replay there is no excuse for missing the call. You can slow motion it and should always get the call right. It’s the people who are making the decision. IMO that replay official should be identified and it be known who is making the decision.

I think for me, the difference is the fact that some of the stuff that has killed us has been on reviews.

I understand that good, unbiased refs are going to miss some calls (like the one you mention).

What really grinds my gears is when replay (with the ability to slow things down and correct egregious errors) is so often botched. That’s when the conspiracy stuff (or at least unintentional bias) gains understandable steam.

At the college level, there is no replay on pass interference. As far as the ID of the referees, we get that before the game, including the replay man in the stadium, and the replay crew at the league office. That office crew is three men.

They announce the replay officials name? I have somehow missed that.

Yes. I know CBS does. I think ESPN does, too. It’s on the flip card in press box for the media. As far as on the stadium PA, don’t think they mention the names.
