I thought this was interesting.
To no one’s surprise, the highest NCG TV audience since 1975 was 35.1 million for the Magic-Bird final in 1979.
There were eight other championship games with 30 million viewers in the next 15 years, ending with Arkansas-Duke in 1994 (32.7 million). Arkansas-UCLA the next year dipped down to 27.4 million.
How many audiences of 30 million has the NCG had since 1994?
Zero. The closest was Duke-Wisconsin two years ago, 28.2 million.
So Arkansas-Duke is the fourth largest audience in college hoops in the last 42 years. Only Duke-Michigan in '92 and UNC-Michigan in '93, along with '79, topped the '94 final.
