If Pittman wants him I hope the Athletic Department doesn’t allow finances to get in the way

Agree 100%
Looks like he’s a young upcomer.
If true, no reason to delay an announcement that this is case, esp. in regard to other school’s interests.
Bingo
Here is why you delay on Hampton:
- Fritz and Pittman are close - professional courtesy (that sets you up in the future as a “good guy you don’t screw with”)
- Tulane has a once-in-a-lifetime opportunity to play USC-W in a major bowl game. Players deserve (heck, coach as well) to play that without knowing you are losing your coach.
So how ethical is it to have recruits sign with your school, knowing full well you’re bailing as soon as signing day is over?
If you, as a coach, preach to recruits, “you are recruiting to a program, not me” then there is no issue. If you have been building that relationship for personal gain, that is unethical, and would be even if you stay for a year or two.
I’m not sure yet this hire would have any impact on Tulane’s recruiting or impact Arkansas’s recruiting…. Not sure why we needed to wait? This one is kind of a wait and see for me, only two years as a DC, not much proven success as a recruiter? Just don’t see the attraction, outside of Pittman hired him and he must feel good about it.
I watched a bit of Tulane’s conference championship game and another late season game. Their defense looked good for the AAC. level. Seemed to use the athletic ability they had well. No obvious red flags from the product on the field.
I would pay attention to how dominating their defense was given the talent level they can attract. As with any G5 to P5 move, you are hoping to scale. Young, energetic coach.
“Just don’t see the attraction” makes little sense to me given that we would be hiring one of the 3-4 best non-P5 DCs based on 2022 performance.
I always find it a plus that there isn’t a culture shift (like Turner will have, moving from Stanford to NWA). Hampton brings South LA as a recruiting territory, maybe.
Meh on Hampton. I would take Lainie Fritz in any capacity.
Young coach with promise, but far from a grand slam sure thing.
That said, the thing that makes me most encouraged and hopeful is that Willie Fritz hired him twice and the second time for the DC job.
I think Fritz is a dang good coach.
Something I find interesting is that Hampton and Ben Sowders, the strength coach, have some similar stops on their resumes. Both were at McNeese State under Lance Guidry and both were at Georgia Tech under Paul Johnson.
Hampton has played and coached under some coaches who are well respected: Lou Holtz, Steve Spurrier, David Cutcliffe, Paul Johnson, Willie Fritz. It’s an interesting background.
I like the idea he comes from using less to get more.
Also means we have had a couple of guys say no. Robert’s took more money to go to auburn. Curious who else we may have lost out on.
I still wish we would look at Tony gibson or even off the wall hire like the Montana st. Head coach Brent vigor. That guy knows defense. No ties to the south but a heck of a coach.
