Dudley, re: the Puerto Rico thing you alluded to:

I don’t know how, but I guess I missed the original announcement about the Hogs being invited to a Puerto Rico tournament. Was this the “Thanksgiving tournament” in San Juan that the Hogs went to in Pelphrey’s first year? I assume it was cancelled because of the devastating Hurricane damage. When cancelled, was there any discussion of resuming that tournament in the next year(s) with the same teams? Now that power has been restored, have you heard anything recently about resuming the tournament?

I went to that tournament in (2007?) and would love to make a return trip if the Hogs get another invite. We stayed at the team Hotel (and casino). Got to have a nice visit with Darian Townes’ Mom and Aunt as well as other Razorback fans who made the trip. San Juan has been my favorite “near by (3-4 hour plane ride)” vacation trip ever since I lived in South Florida for 17 years. Probably been there a half dozen times in the last 20 years.

It was moved back to the states because of the destruction and Arkansas - and a few other teams - chose not to participate in the revamped tournament in South Carolina.

They instead added three “tournament” games in a exempt setting - the Hardwood Classic, which is played at campus sites.

Those games are home ones against Indiana (Sunday, Nov. 18 at 2:30 p.m.), Montana State (Wednesday, Nov. 21, 7 p.m.) and UT-Arlington (Friday, Nov. 23, 7 p.m.).

As for off-campus tournaments, the only one I know of right now is Arkansas going back to Maui in 2022.

The Puerto Rico tournament was owned by ESPN Events. It has been replaced with one in Myrtle Beach. I’m not sure whether ESPN plans to sponsor another one on the island.
