So as I read all of this, unless we sign a 3 that can really shoot, our shooting is not going to improve much. Unless hill can shoot, still down to fairly consistent 3 shooters as joe and jones. Simpson has had one good game shooting threes and sills the same. Inconsistent at best. Harris, his outside shot so bad even w improvement he would move from can’t hit the side of a barn to inconsistent. Kinda discouraging thinking about next year.

[/quote] I’m all for shooters but this team lacks scorers. There isn’t a player on the entire roster who can put the ball on the floor and score off the dribble. Harris can get by his man but is a terrible finisher and has no mid-range game. I struggle to find anyone else who can even get by their man!
I think Sills, Harris can both do that now, but I agree that neither is great at finishing. It’s something that can be worked on. I also think Gabe can do it, when a 4 or 5 comes out to guard him, as can Chaney, but Chaney is the only one I’m confident can get the basket. But again, it’s something that can and needs to be worked on this offseason. I also think both Chaney and Gabe becoming consistent 3pt threats would help a great deal, but that’s something those two will have to really work on in the gym when everyone else goes home.
Joe looks very hesitant at times when taking the ball to the rack but maybe that has to do with being a true freshman. He needs to put on some muscle too and maybe that will help when he does because he looks like he gets pushed around inside when driving the lane. If Harris had a mid range shot he would scoring some serious buckets for us but that is lacking and so is his 3 point shoot. We need scorers badly to go along with Joe and Jones!
You guys are forgetting about Mason Jones, he’s actually pretty good at attacking the rim and drawing fouls or finishing. He’s the only person on the team that has been consistent in that .
If Hill can shoot, score or both I think Harris minutes go down. He will see what he needs to do to get minutes. All of us message board coaches see it.
smh they need 4 others because Hill just isn’t a difference maker and I don’t see a freshman big being a difference maker either unless they pull a rabbit out a hat and get a decommitted five or high four star freshman big …….I think they need two jucos at least and two steals
I agree Ethan doesn’t have much skill and is unnecessarily skinny (meaning how are you not in the weight room every day and gaining knowing you are not getting any clock he should have least gained 15-20 since he graduated high school)
I agree with this as well though I believe Ibby has the higher ceiling between the two, which is saying much…I still think both should transition out given neither could crack the lineup during this display…And if they couldn’t play this year how do you expect them to play next season with 4 starter returning and their backups…unless you plan to be worse next season than this one
We need to use both of those scholarships for players who can play not just be a body at practice…you can pull practice bodies from the YMCA
Yet the only guard they signed to help in that area is Justice Hill who looks like a football player transitioning into a basketball player according to coach A… That’s why I’m not a big fan of the Hill signing… Though I think he’s a good player at what he does… And I do think he’s a good player!.. However he’s not what the doctor ordered, he’s not what we need for our shortcomings. To me he has the Harris’ strengths and could be better than Harris on all accounts idk, but I do know we don’t need another Harris…I would be happy to have Hill under other circumstances but think unless we free up at least five or 6 scholarships we are in trouble and after his freshman season he might be playing for a coach that didn’t recruit him anyways…I think best for the program and the athletes Gabe(lack of performance),Ibby(lack of performance),Ethan(Lack of performance),Garland(medical),Gafford (draft),Phillips (personal reasons)…. than these open scholarships would help more so than hurt us. Really if we have 5 or 6 for next season can I see the signing Justice a good thing or unless Justice can score and average 10 to 13 points a game for us next season
You mentioned Gabe as a guy that should transfer, I know I flip/flop on my opinion about him during the games and get frustrated with him, but overall I like the potential Gabe has. He’s one of the few guys in that Auburn game that showed some heart and fight. He’s got that Manny Watkins mentality, which is just being tough and coming and trying to get guys energized, and he’s starting to cut down on silly mistakes. If you remember JaCorey Williams use to do the SAME exact stuff, maybe even worse… Jacorey thought he was Michael Jordan at times, and we all couldn’t wait to get rid of him, then he transfers and was an 18PPG player and won POY in his conference and got some serious looks by NBA teams, he’s in the G-League now. Gabe is a legit 6’8, ball handling isn’t bad, he can attack the rim, and he’s working on his shot, and most importantly he plays hard every minute he’s out there . You have to remember he’s only a sophomore, it’s not uncommon at all for guys to be night and day difference from sophomore year to junior year, Moses Kingsley averaged 4 PPG and looked lost a lot of times during his sophomore year and jumped to 16 PPG his junior year.
The guys I’d all like to see back next year would be… Harris, Joe, Jones, Chaney, Gabe, Embery-Simpson, Sills, and Hill. I think that’s our core bunch right there. I feel really good if we bring all of those guys back and we bring in a couple JUCOs and some quality bigs to fill the other holes.
You don’t typically run off someone who averages more than 5 points and 3.6 rebounds a game as a freshman and shoots 54% from the floor. Unless you’re just somebody sitting in his armchair without a clue.
