Defense alignment issue

I don’t get it. After every game for the last 3 years we hear the excuse for poor defense as alignment issues.

I understand too slow, too weak, poor tacking, but I don’t understand lining up incorrectly and if you are lined up incorrectly why this can’t be corrected fairly easily.

EI offense wasn’t that complicated.

How much of this is coach speak to cover for the lack of talent we have on defense?

The player they mentioned as aligning wrong on a few plays was a true freshman. I didn’t hear that used as an overall problem for the defense other than a couple of mistakes by Bumper Pool.
