The #2, 3 and 4 homer-hitting teams in the country are all in the SEC. Which means the race to lead the league in dingers is just heating up.
Right now, Arkansas has 69 jacks, Kentucky has 67 and Florida has 68. Florida has played 46 games, we’ve played 45 and the Jellycats 44, so on HRPG, we’re also #2.
Tennessee Tech, which has just been blistering the ball all year, has 98 homers in 43 games, which is just ridiculous. Their park is not really small either, but I bet they have a favorable wind more than we do at Baum. But they also bat .356 as a team and average 11 runs a game, which is just stupid.
They lost today to Southeast Missouri 10-6. That’s their first loss since March 10 – 28 wins in a row. And that streak included wins over Tennessee and West Virginia, so it’s not all beating up on overmatched Ohio Valley opposition.
Tennessee Tech has the #23 RPI. I would not want them as the 2 seed in my regional, I know that.
