Don’t know anything about Hawaii other than I wish they had brought some of their rain which they didn’t. A 17 pt win by CSU would be a big surprise. Is Hawaii that bad?
No way are they 7 pts. better than CU.
Looking forward to watching the game. It will be a real game and a chance to do a little scouting.
Hawaii is really bad, and almost never wins on the mainland even when they are decent. Colorado is not supposed to be very good this year either, though they certainly are better than Hawaii.
Hawaii is changing back to the run and shoot, so a new offense vs. a team that’s offense was supposedly dominated in fall practice by it’s defense. Normally these two would light up the scoreboard and the total is 58. We’ll see.
Bike Hog is right. Vegas Line makers, Westgate, GC Technology, and William Hill all have St as a 7 point favorite. Caesar’s has St as a 6.5 point favorite. Lines this early always lean heavily on the home team in rivalry games.
Edit: Vegas Insider has the line as CO -7. They usually have it right, but I’m surprised 2 other sources have ST as the 7 point favorite. CBSS and ESPN need to fire their editors.
Yes, I just edited my post while you were posting this. ESPN even listed the linemakers individually and had them all backwards. They even listed a money line as COLO +205 / CSU -250.
A lot of CSU’s problems tonight are self-inflicted. Turnover, missed FG and eight penalties so far. You can clean some of that up. But they are not stopping the Bows offense at all. Hawaii has scored four times in five possessions.
I feel like i read somewhere that they have had problems scoring in the fall, on their own defense. So that seems to be pretty telling to me, because their defense is just plain bad.
The CSU defense was really, really bad, almost helpless against the pass and gave up almost 200 rushing. Some of the local media reported a smattering of boos from the home crowd. I believe the headline for one of the stories in the Fort Collins newspaper was “Ominous signs for CSU football team in loss to Hawaii” or something like that.
The CSU offense was very productive in the passing game, but one item there was that Hawaii had little pass rush all night, getting no sacks. CSU did not run the ball that well.
You have to think that they will look much better against Colorado this week, given time to correct their mistakes, in-state rivalry, and Colorado predicted to be poor this year/playing its first game. It’s going to be a very emotional game for CSU, which clearly got embarrassed by the loss last night. So they could very well win the game.
The problem for CSU against us will be that no matter what happens against Colorado it will be hard to sustain that emotional level two weeks in a row, and the Hogs are likely to play much better against CSU than they do against Eastern Illinois. All of which does not bode well for CSU.
We are going to find out what kind of shape our guys are in, the elevation of 5000 feet will do a number on a hurry up offense they run and we run. But, I feel good about the game because we have better players.
