Clay and Administrators. When did this board start changing post subject wordings?

I titled my post below as “Wally is beating that dead horse…again.” One of your administrators changed it so it appeared I posted “no one here wants to play ASU…WHY??”

I don’t appreciate my posts and headings being revised so they appear to be saying something very different than I intended. If I can’t trust you and your people, I need to find a board that can be trusted.

I hope this was a mistake that will be corrected and not be repeated. If this is now this board’s “policy”, I am out of here!

There were multiple threads on the same subject. They merged the threads. Only one headline lives and the one that describes the conversation best lived.

Then don’t put my name on it. It looks like I’m the one whining about wanting to play ASU and that is a total distortion of my OP.

I merged the threads because the content essentially was the same. Why it took the other topic title instead of yours - I don’t know. I didn’t change what you wrote; you’ll notice your “Wally dead horse,” etc., title still is at the top of your post. It’s no overarching ADG agenda, as you claim. I can assure you that.

I’ve merged similar posts hundreds of time. Just a good idea to have similar thoughts together and in one thread instead of two threads. Saves people who want to comment from wondering which one they should post under and not having to do it twice. So generally, merging similar threads is a good idea.

[/quote]I completely agree that this policy is a good one. Funny thing is, when a “commoner” (i.e. someone other than you, Dudley or one of the other “insiders”) asks why someone made a new post on a subject that already had several threads, they are immediately attacked by responses that say, essentially, “mind your own business”.

Hogmodo is capable of speaking for himself, of course, but I don’t think it’s the combining of threads that concerns him; it’s the fact that another subject line (from a similar thread) was attached to the thread and with his post being first, it appeared that it was he that chose that somewhat inflammatory subject line. I’ve seen threads combined dozens if not hundreds of times. It was my impression that when threads are merged, the oldest (i.e., the one posted earliest) OP survived as the first post of the combined threads, with that thread’s subject line. Then, all others were inserted in the thread in chronological order.

If what Hogmodo says is correct, his post was the first in the thread, but a different subject line was used instead. If so, it’s a legitimate question to ask. Not to be argumentative - but just to understand why that happened. I think we can all agree that it shouldn’t have. And you can’t fix a problem if no one points it out in the first place.

Clay, I have no problem with you merging posts. My problem is my name is on the OP and the title of the OP has been changed to a completely opposite point than I was trying to make. It looks like I am in favor of playing ASU which I am not. That is my objection. Put Elvishog’s name under his post title instead of mine and I will be very happy.

Thank you. You stated my case far better than I did!

I’ve tried to make the thread title change and can’t. Sorry.

I don’t know why it picked the thread title it picked. I would think it would choose the oldest thread, but that did not happen. There is no reverting back to separate threads after they have been merged; it’s like toothpaste coming out of a tube.

I’ve used the merge function a few times and it is counter-intuitive. You need to open the topic that you want merged with the original first.

So if I want to merge a game comment with the game thread, I need to open the latest comment first and then choose the game thread for merging.

And you are right, the first time that I tried to merge threads, I tried to change the title. It changed it on the post itself, but not on the name of the topic on the board.

I personally like multiple threads on the same subject. I think we need more threads on the board. I read both threads, keep up with them, and read again if someone has added something.

If the threads are merged, I lose track of what I have read. Now, if Wally’s name being in the subject line is a problem, since there is some affiliation now, we need to know that.

Many a thread with Wally’s name have survived.

sorry/
tried to change it.

dont think we were making opposite arguments
