I am really disappointed in this. I understand the decision, but I’m still disappointed and a little surprised. If this were our 3rd or 4th bowl in a row I could understand it better, but I’d think he’d want the bowl experience. I know the risks, but every game a player enters carries a risk of injury.

Hate to say it, but this will really hurt our chances in the bowl game. I’m sure PSU will have some opt outs, too, but I hate this trend. Pretty soon bowl games will be nothing more than games between teams’ backups. Everyone with a chance at the NFL will drop out.

People keep sayin’ college football is changing right before our eyes.

I’m still not seein’ it. :sunglasses:

Not a surprise. I hoped he’d play in the bowl but it would be taking a risk.

I truly hate that this opting out has become a thing. I am really surprised Treylon is doing this.

Not a surprise at all. He has played hurt most of the year and I can see him wanting to get healthy. Enjoyed the time he played for Hawgs and he will always be supportative of the program and state in my opinion. Good luck #16.

Not surprised. Think it’s the right decision for him.

Still bummed though.

I expect their big time receiver to opt out as well.

Me, too. This really hurts our chances to beat Penn State.

If I was his parent, I might advise him to do the same thing. 1st Round pick is very different than lower round picks.

Same here. I completely understand and support his decision to turn pro. I did not expect him to abandon his teammates and coaches with one very big game left to play. My opinion of Treylon has dropped a bit. I really don’t care if he has a great pro career or not. Just another mercenary in what is becoming nothing more than an NFL developmental league.

Oh well…I am gonna sell my bowl game tickets now. With Treylon not playing I am not sure if we can beat them now. I really don’t want to spend 10k in travel and tickets to watch us get beat by a 7-5 BG10 team. I really felt we could win with Treylon playing. The Bowl experience is a lot of fun but only if your team wins.

I wonder why the opt-out starts at the bowl? If a player has established his NFL skills, why not opt out of November? Or even mid-October?

Everyone can have their personal thoughts on this, doesn’t make one thought right or the other wrong. From my standpoint, I’m disappointed and a little surprised by the opt-out, feels a bit out of character for him. If we’d gone 6-6 and snuck into some crappy bowl then I’d be more understanding. But you and your teammates have earned their way into a NYD bowl, the upper echelon where you can play against a great program and a big national spotlight one last time.

Why not opt out before the Missouri game or the Alabama game? The idea that this one game has some greater probability of preventing a pro career is just curious to me. What does the list look like of guys who would’ve been first rounders but got hurt in the bowl game and never made it because of that? Guessing it’s minuscule.

This is the attitude we should all have. None of us know where he is physically and how much time he needs to actually heal. If he isn’t well and underperforms at the draft, that will cost him millions. He played hurt for us all year. Look at the pain he was in at Bama. He gave us a great regular season and is an all time great Hog. I can’t believe people would turn on him now. So sad.

I see a bunch of people who mostly never even sniffed having enough talent to play Division II sports criticizing the decision of an ELITE athlete to do what’s best for him after a year in which he put his body (and quite frankly future) on the line week in and week out, playing through injuries and giving his all for his team.

He has far more to lose than gain in this. If I were his parent I would be supporting, nigh on demanding this decision from him. I say to hell with you fairweather fans if you’re going to turn your back on Burks and what he’s accomplished because he’s doing what’s best for HIS future now.

Most of you teeth gnashers would do a whole lot of things worse than not playing in a bowl game for the kind of money he’s going to get from a signing bonus alone.

I’ll continue to root for Treylon because he’ll always be a Hog in my book.

I think it’s safe to say he’ll be less banged up in a month than he is now unless he got some new injury in bowl practice. I seriously doubt a less-than-stellar bowl game performance would cost him anything in the draft.

I don’t think anyone is “turning on him” but it’s quite natural to be disappointed in his decision and in him. He could help his team win a huge bowl game. Would that be an unselfish act? Sure. Does playing carry some risk? Of course. So does every game.

I don’t blame him at all! Proud he played for our hogs. Wish him all the best and hope he has a long career.
