I Like Mike, my son dated his wife. LOL He is a grad of the University of Central Arkansas
All the energy in the world. Now we are not the only one after this guy.
He stepped off the plane in Bluff City on December4th 2015, and at that time he was the youngest HC in the FBS. Mike has been on a roll ever since.
Mike is getting ready to play UFC in the conference championship (AAC) game VS. Scott Frost. Nebraska is looking at Scott and have mutual interest.
Interesting thing is they have played. UFC won that game 40-13.
These 2 teams are the #1 & #2 highest scoring teams in the nation.
UFC averaging 48.3
Memphis averaging 47
The Tigers moved to 14 in the latest USA Today coaches poll, 16 in the AP Record 10-1
UCF (11-0) moved up to # 11 in the coaches poll and 12 in the AP
As it stands now, Memphis is working hard to renegotiate Mike’s contract.
SO THIS is just driving coaches salary up. MIKE WANTS this job.
Well…its being reported right now from numerous sources that we are actually conducting two searches. One is the official search through the administration (now I just saw the administration hired/is hiring a search firm) and they have vetted Venables and Chad morris. The other search is from the boosters who think they can get Malzahn (if he loses Saturday) with the back up plan being Norvell. Which one pans out?? Hell if I know…gonna be interesting.
Well Jake, these crazy coaching searches are crazy. And how many times have we been correct. We have people posting and then comes along another thread with the same content. I have 3 sources on this one. I have been giving to the foundation for 40 years. Season FB ticket holder till I had to drop one due to money. So for 34 years I was a season Basketball ticket holder. I had to let them go this year due to health issues. I know for a fact Mike want’s this job. Problem is does he have enough experience? CBB had the experience but how well did that work out?
ALSO I HATE for me to use the word sources. I’m not Clay, DD, Richard, Tom, Matt or on a staff. Or a writer. One time (years ago) I did have some inside information. And I said my sources have said this or that. I can’t count the BS I got bombed with. MADE FUN OF. Then I give some inside info on this search and the first response was “MERCY” by The Notorious PIG . anthony1704 said I would be shocked, Colorado said 0 (ZERO) senses Whatever that means or spells.
ALSO Jake I knew this was coming LAST YEAR. IF anyone would have read any of my posts you could have put a few things together. BUT, nobody or few respond to my posts. I have tremors and it makes it very hard for me to type and put my thoughts on paper. Now if you heard me speak you wouldn’t know it.
WHEN I post that just kills the thread. I re-read my posts and find it sometimes doesn’t come out or typed what I thought. Maybe my ADD come out.
I’m going to give Richard Davenport a shout for agreeing OR acknowledgement that my #1 choice info might be right.
MY answer on coaches search, IS MONEY. A lot of agents involved. It’s believable.
Your info is spot on. If Aub loses Sat it’s highly likely that Gus is the next coach. Despite what some (including the Notorious(ly) snarky one) thinks. Sat changed nothing really, Aub is going to have to pony up big or Gus is heading back here. It’s his last chance for this job.
Think’s for the post. You stated it better than I did in a lot fewer words. If Auburn wins that may end that. But Gus does want to come home. I also think your right Gus’s last chance. We’ll see
Simple
Auburn loses, here comes Gus.
Auburn wins, here comes Mike…
I don’t know what anyone knows. I like seeing new information. It keeps me entertained at work.
I’ll reflect back on this when its all over and if you were right, I will pay a lot closer attention to what you write.
I will admit I am warming to Gus a bit. Mike is OK (Though I am concerned about his lack of experience, but I am glad my boss didn’t consider that when he promoted me 20 years ago)
I like the idea of an exciting offense for a change.
To clairify my “mercy” on that thread it related to your sourced info that if UGA wins Saturday he’s coming here.
I find that to be remarkably unlikely. I don’t have the sources that I am sure -you have…just an AU friend who, after the Iron Bowl domination, said there is zero percent chance.
It just doesn’t make a lot of sense. I don’t remember much precedent for a head coach leaving a NC caliber team to go to a perceived lesser program. We will see (although maybe not because there’s a good chance AU beats UGA).
I think you are right about there not being a precedent in football, but there is a precedent in other sports at Arkansas. I would say Mike Neighbors, Mike Anderson and Dave Van Horn all left championship caliber teams to go to programs that were not as prestigious at the time.
I would be real surprised if Malzahn came back to Arkansas, but there is something about this place that has lured good coaches back from good situations before.

Matt’s answer wasn’t that it happens. It was that he agreed there’s not a precedent in football but that it happened in other sports.
SEC football is an entirely different animal. And, I would say there’s a reason it rarely happens.
One of the closest examples was actually CBB. He didn’t leave an established, successful, perceived-to-be better program to come “home” but he left to take on a challenge and create a new home.
And, the SEC West and Hog fans chewed him up. That was without a big portion of the base already disliking him from prior drama, here.
Add in that AU pays better, it has actually been his home for awhile, now, he has one of the Top 5 programs in the country and the team Is young, recruiting is much easier, they’re known to have a bigger recruiting “budget”, he has a decent shot at a NC this year, Sexton is his agent and the chances of him coming here are really slim.
