What nonsense! Jack Crowe was our head coach for less than three years as was Joe Kines and John L. Smith, both fired after just one year. The idea that coaches deserves more than three years or any set number of years is foolishness. Athletic directors should and usually do base their decisions on the overall performance in which the win/loss record is only one factor.
Jimmy Dykes wasn’t fired because he had a bad season. That was only a small consideration. Mostly he was fired because recruiting and win/loss records were going downhill fast. And, that combined with the fact that great assistant coaches were unhappy and leaving and some of our best players had transferred and others threatening to leave.
