Mississippi State and Arkansas both lost runners on the bases in a scoreless first inning. In the State first, Brent Rooker got a two-out single against Arkansas starter Josh Alberius. Alberius caught him leaning at first and picked him off. In the Arkansas first, Jake Arledge worked a lead-off walk after falling behind MSU starter Jake Mangum. Arledge went to second on a wild pitch, to third on Chad Spanberger’s ground out. He was going on contact with Luke Bonfield’s bouncer back to the mound. Arledge was caught in a rundown for the second out, Bonfield going to second.
MSU had two hits in the second, but did not score. Arkansas went in order in the bottom of the second.
In the third, MSU got a one-out single by Tanner Poole, but Alberius got a deep fly ball out from Mangum and Gridley on a bounce out to Shaddy.
Eric Cole snapped an 0-24 slump with a lead-off single in the Arkansas third. It was the first hit allowed by Mangum, although he’d pitched just three innings coming in. Jax Biggers hit a soft bouncer through the hole on the right side, with Cole motoring to third. Arledge walked to load the bases. That ended Mangum’s day on the mound, although he’ll stay in the game as the DH. Lefty Trysten Barlow entered to face Spanberger. The Hogs made it 1-0 on Spanberger’s fly ball to right field. Cole scored on a sac fly, but Biggers did not advance from second, a strange move. Bonfield hit a bouncer to third, for a force at second of Arledge. Biggers advanced to third, then scored on a passed ball. Bonfield went to second. Koch walked. Shaddy singled to right to score Bonfield, but Shaddy was out at second to end the inning.
Alberius gave up a single in the fourth, but stranded that runner at second with a called strike three to Alexander.
MSU brings in Riley Self to pitch to open the fourth. McFarland beat out an infield hit to short with one out. Cole bunted him to second. Biggers was hit by pitch. Arledge hit a liner to left for an RBI single to make it 4-0. Spanberger hit a long one well foul, then struck out to end the fourth.
Alberius gave up a lead-off single to Bragg. Then, after Skelton bunted him to second, Poole was out on a bouncer to third with Bragg holding at second. That was it for Alberius, who exited to a standing ovation. Lefty Kacey Murphy entered so Mangum switched to the right side for the first time all weekend. He hit a pop-out that Spanberger caught near the mound to end the MSU 5th.
The Hogs got a one-out single from Koch, but Shaddy lined out to right and Fletcher bounced out to second. It’s 4-0 after five. Dominic Taccolini enters for Arkansas to pitch the sixth.
Jax Biggers made a sparkling play in the hole to get Gridley on a ground out to open the sixth. But Rooker followed with a line drive homer to left to make it 4-1. MacNamee struck out swinging for the second out of the inning. Gordon was out on a fly to right to end the inning.

Taccolini got the Bulldogs 1-2-3 in the 7th, recording the last out with a nifty play on a tapper off the plate near the third base line. Taccolini sailed through the eight, 1-2-3 with a strikeout of Mangum.
Carson Shaddy hit a solo homer in the seventh to set the final score. Taccolini gave up a hit in the ninth, but went four innings to record his first save.
