Three this year. I don’t ever remember a college player, or pro for that matter, with three inside the park homers in a season. I think he’s fast enough to play DB in the SEC, but I also suspect he’s in the best sport for himself already. If he can get that throwing arm under control, he’ll make a bunch of money with his bat, glove and speed.
I don’t know if they keep records on ITP HR’s, but that’s got to be a school record at least.
I can’t remember anyone having more than one.
Earlier in the week the annoucers said the outfielders were playing Casey “in” until his IPH. Somewhat stunnng if true. But, this evening’s shot was a rocket and seemed to bound 50 feet off the wall.
Extending singles into doubles and doubles into triples is one thing but extending triples into 3 inside the park HR’s in a lifetime is amazing much less 3 in a season.
No matter how fast you are it still takes near perfect base running without losing a step at this level and beyond because of the arms these guys have.
He might lead the league in doubles…if he were slower.
I was watching part of the Tennessee game today (since ours was rained out) and the talking heads were going on about their guy - the one who was 29-2 in stolen bases until Opitz threw him out last week. Anyhow, he went from first to third on a single (it was impressive base-running) and these guys were going on and on about how he was probably the fastest base-runner in college baseball today.
I thought to myself “hold on just a minute there”. I’d love to have a competition where guys were timed from home to third and/or home plate (inside the park home run). I’d bet Casey would hold his own in such a competition. That kid can motor around those bags.
Yes he does, he never short steps either.
Out of the box and gone.
Casey does this from the right handed side…just wow.
