Alabama hires Auburn assistant as HC

Alabama has hired Brad Bohannon as head coach. Bohannon has been an Auburn assistant the past couple of seasons and was at Kentucky for 12 years before that. He was the national assistant coach of the year in 2015.

It’s an interesting move for a few reasons, not to mention the obvious one. First, Auburn still is playing and second, Bohannon has no head coach experience. I figured Greg Byrne, who has a track record as a great AD for baseball, would try to hire someone with more name appeal.

Bohannon is known as a recruiter. He helped recruit the Kentucky team and has been influential in the quick turn around at Auburn. Bama needs players so this makes sense. I thought there was an outside chance that Vitello could be a possibility. His time is coming soon and it may not be at a mid major first.
