Akol Mawein, Navarro College win fifth straight

The Arkansas signee had 8 points and 6 rebounds in his team’s 86-76 win over Bossier Parissh Community College 86-76 on Saturday.

He was 2-of-3 from the field overall, 1-of-1 from 3 and 3-of-5 from the free throw line.

Navarro is now 11-5 and will be back in action Wednesday at 4 p.m. at Lamar State College-Port Arthur.

Four regular season games left before Region Tournament.

is he not more like a new and slightly improved Gabe O???

Not as good as a defender as Gabe.

The fact that he is 6-10, 240 makes him different from Gabe to start with.

He seems to score within the flow of the game. Imagine him getting up 10-12 attempts per game.

Dudley, not having seen much juco ball, my sense of it is that a big is probably going to have to get his points on the offensive glass because there isn’t much team play and the guards are going to shoot first, last and always. Is that accurate?

There’s probably some truth to that, but Akol can gets his own shot.

Is Akol viewed as our replacement for Smith?

Coach Muss and Coach Patrick have both said they view him as an inside out guy.

I actually texted him today a question about this very thing. Let you know what they have told him when he responds.

It will be interesting for Hog fans. Most of us are Razorback sports junkies. It is hard not to look ahead and wonder if we will still be a very formidable team even with losing Moses, Smith and Tate.

why so few touches?

I’m still kinda shrugging my shoulders with the commit of this guy, esp. with the talent that is gonna be in the portal. Kinda feels like we expected a breakout juco season and it just hasn’t happened. Maybe it’s a favor to Patrick. Oh well. In Muss I trust.

Don’t think there has been a lack of touches, especially for junior college.

He had 290 shots last season in 30 games - that was 15th nationally

He has 129 this season, but they have only played 16 games because of covid. That is still 21st nationally

He is their third leading scorer and has taken the third amount of shots (8.4 per game) behind two guards who take 11 and 10 per game

He’s gone to the FT 69 times this season in 16 games, 120 last season in 30 games

They both absolutely adore him so I don’t think it’s a favor

I was basically talking about the 3 shots in the last game. Kind of strange especially given the info you provided, really looking forward to seeing how he and little rock transfer can give us length and athleticm in the paint

That’s why I wanted to put it in context.

The first game I saw D-Mac play, he was just okay so always good to look over the big picture - as you know.
