ACC votes to stay with 8 game conference schedule

I know this surprised some, but it wasn’t too surprising to me. The ACC wants its teams to play a good out of conference team, so adding an extra conference game would only add to schedule difficulty. It does the conference better to have an extra winnable game on the schedule. That’s how teams get to 6-6 and a bowl game. Even the bad bowls are worth a lot of money.

ACC is actually in a good position for the playoff. They have three quality teams most years and a couple more that can sneak up and bite you (see UNC over FSU). So if you can go 12-1 in that league you’re gonna be in good shape with the committee. The semi-membership of Notre Dame doesn’t hurt either; that bumps up the conference’s SOS.
