I’ve now watched Arkansas’ first 2 SEC games multiple times, tracking various things. I was listening to a Phoenix Suns podcast the other day and one of the hosts mentioned a stat I hadn’t considered much before: assistable passes, or potential assists. Who is getting others involved?
I charted that for each Razorbacks player in the Auburn and Missouri games:
• Arkansas made just 5 of 28 shots set up by Jalen Tate, including 2 of 21 from 3-point range. He had 15 potential assists at Auburn and 13 vs. Missouri. The Razorbacks are 1 of their last 22 from the floor on shots immediately following a Tate pass.
• JD Notae had 10 potential assists (3/10 FG), Moses Moody had 9 (3/9 FG), and Desi Sills 8 (4/8 FG). No other player has more than 4 (Connor Vanover).
Opponents’ shooting numbers vs. each Arkansas defender
• Jalen Tate - 2/9 FG, 2/6 3FG
• Connor Vanover - 2/10 FG, 0/2 3FG
• Justin Smith - 2/3 FG, 2/2 3FG
• Moses Moody - 6/10 FG, 2/5 3FG
• JD Notae - 7/16 FG, 3/8 3FG
• Devo Davis - 2/7 FG, 1/4 3FG
• Desi Sills - 6/8 FG, 4/5 3FG
• Vance Jackson - 2/6 FG, 0/1 3FG
• Jaylin Williams - 0/5 FG, 0/2 3FG
• Uncontested - 24/33 FG, 6/14 3FG
Connor Vanover’s struggles from 3-point range
• Vanover is 8 of 32 from deep since the beginning of December. He is 2 of 11 from the left wing, 3 of 13 from the left wing and 1 of 4 from the top of the key.
• He is 0 of his last 5 from the left wing, 1 of his last 8 from the right wing and has missed his last 3 attempts from the top of the key.
