A few notes from practice - 8/6

– Ryan Mallett was back today and with Joe Craddock and the quarterbacks, which were targeting a three-pocket throwing net about 15-20 yards away. Kelley got on a roll and threw 4-5 balls in a row into one of the pockets. He wasn’t quiet about it, either. Mallett was yelling encouragement his way.

– During the 11-on-11 work, Ty Storey was the first quarterback, followed by Kelley and Daulton Hyatt. Devwah Whaley was the No. 1 running back and Jeremy Patton the No. 1 tight end. Also noticed during skelly work that Maleek Williams was getting quite a few reps behind Whaley and Chase Hayden.

– Again, during 11-on-11, Ryan Pulley and Chevin Calloway were the No. 1 corners. Jarques McCellion and Britto Tutt followed. Tutt had a nice pass breakup covering the taller and bigger Chase Harrell. D’Vone McClure worked at Nickel with the first group.

– Matt noticed that it appeared the defense was working on a 3-3-5 look with Sosa at tackle. Hayden Henry was on the field alongside Scoota and Dre Greenlaw at linebacker during that time.

– OL rotation from what we were allowed to see: From what we saw today:

1st team (L –> R) – Dalton Wagner, Hjalte Froholdt, Shane Clenin, Johnny Gibson, Brian Wallace
2nd team – Noah Gatlin, Kirby Adcock, Ty Clary, Tyler Hall, Deion Malone

– When I pulled up to the facility this morning, I saw Carolina Panthers and Philadelphia Eagles reps leaving.

Where is Merrick? And Hays for that matter??

Merrick has been out with an undisclosed injury. Hays did not practice today and said afterward that he has to “get clear on some issues,” but did not elaborate.

Thanks Matt!
