With the extended width of the lane, I expected 3-second violations from both teams as the players would likely forget about the extension. But, I don’t recall any calls. I timed the Providence players standing in the lane for more than 6 seconds several times. I would have thought that would be a special emphasis for the refs given the wider lane.
I was at work and didn’t get to watch all that closely but I wonder if the wider lane provided more room for the motion we apparently showed on offense. Perhaps Scottie or Duds can address that.
Maybe the refs couldn’t count to 6.. In all seriousness, maybe they were told to give the players some leeway so not to slow the game down?
